Solving problems with AI and digital solutions

🌍 Proud to Contribute to Global #AISafety! 🌍 I had the honour of contributing to the AI Forum NZ's response to the International Scientific Report on the #SafetyofAdvancedAI 2025. This comprehensive report, led by Yoshua Bengio and an Expert Advisory Panel, is a significant step towards ensuring the safe and ethical development of #AI technologies worldwide. Our contribution highlighted: 🌟 Indigenous Perspectives: Addressing the unique challenges faced by New Zealand Māori and other indigenous communities. 🌟 Data Governance: Emphasizing robust frameworks to protect privacy and intellectual property. 🌟 Technological Convergence: Exploring the integration of AI with other emerging technologies. Special thanks to our dedicated team: Glen Willoughby, Ming Cheuk, Prof Michael Witbrock, Anshuman Banerjee,Dr Karaitiana Taiuru JP, MInstD, Frith Tweedie, and Madeline Newman. Just a shame it was so poor to begin with. No definition of the contentious term “AI safety”, labelling hallucinations as “malfunctions” (they’re a feature not a bug!) and particularly weak on the privacy front. Altogether surprising given the profile of this report (though it has plenty of detractors to be fair). We did what we could in terms of suggesting improvements but it remains to be seen whether they’ll take our recommendations onboard.

It was an incredible privilege to help bring the voice of Aotearoa to such a significant report. Looking forward to seeing how our response shapes the path forward for responsible and ethical AI development globally!
