At CrossCountry, we’re pleased to support small local causes every year through our Regional Directors’ donation schemes. In December, we donated £650 to local charity Cosy Coats to provide brand new winter coats for children who need them. St Edmund Campion Catholic School in Erdington received the funding making sure students were kept warm over the winter. Travel brings us together, in more ways than one. So to celebrate the CrossCountry connections between England, Scotland and Wales, we took over Birmingham New St, Edinburgh Waverley and Cardiff Central train stations with an eye-catching showcase of our brand. Thanks to McCann Birmingham for bringing our passengers’ journeys to life.

Yesterday we were delighted to introduce our inaugural Three Nations Connect services, linking Cardiff and Edinburgh directly by rail in a daily midweek train service. As part of the December 2024 timetable change, this daily service has been introduced to connect communities across Wales, England and Scotland, making travel easier and bringing together people and economies. Thanks to everyone who helped us launch the new service yesterday at launch events at both Cardiff and Edinburgh, with support from fellow train operators and Network Rail - as well as some musical accompaniments!

On Friday we had the pleasure of receiving a Railway Innovation Award along with our partners at Chiltern Railways and CGA Experience for our work on the pilot scheme of a new training software, Empathy Lab. Empathy Lab is the rail industry’s first learning experience to incorporate augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), which revolutionised the way training was delivered to CrossCountry colleagues taking part in the pilot scheme. We look forward to seeing what Empathy Lab can deliver for colleagues across the rail industry in future. Many thanks to our partners at Modern Railways and Railway Industry Association for organising another fantastic afternoon of awards.

Although we’re not a local operator, that doesn’t stop us getting involved with local communities – we’ve partnered with to support them in giving all their players the opportunity to join two junior tours this year. The Litherland teams put on a strong performance, with our £1,000 donation helping all 59 players take part in this Spring’s tournaments at home and away. As we head into summer we look forward to working with railway colleagues including at Network Rail and Merseyrail to help further engage the children at Litherland on the importance of railway safety.
