Daughter Craft: Small vessels, making big waves! As offshore wind projects grow in scale and complexity, vessel shortages are becoming a critical bottleneck - exacerbated by tougher conditions and a stretched shipbuilding industry. Our latest report, Daughter Craft: An Integral Addition to the Offshore Wind Vessel Family, explores how these next-generation vessels can unlock new efficiencies and help to fill up to a quarter of offshore wind CTV demand by 2050. Key takeaways from the report: 🚢 More turbines serviced per trip – Deploying up to two Daughter Craft per SOV could boost operational efficiency. 🌊 Built for offshore wind – Safe push-on transfers, hybrid-ready propulsion, and enhanced crew comfort. ⛓️💥 Easing supply chain pressures – Fast and cost-effective to build, supporting local shipyards. With expert insights from the across the Chartwell Marine team, plus contribution from North Star and Purus, this report dives into the vital role Daughter Craft can play in overcoming industry challenges. 📖 Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/d2wVpuXG

TriFoiler in testing! Our electric foiling trimaran, has successfully launched and is now undergoing sea trials on Southampton Water. Part funded by a UK Government grant under the Innovate UK CMDC programme, this project is an important step in exploring the feasibility of a cost-effective, reliable zero-emission ferry. Built in collaboration with Solent University and @Newcastle Marine Services Ltd, the vessel features a lightweight trimaran hull, a fixed main foil, and an actuating foiling rudder—designed to optimise efficiency while maintaining speed and stability. The trial phase is underway and will provide valuable data and experience informing the next stage of development towards a full-scale, 24m, 40-passenger foiling ferry! Great Work North Star’s Steve Myers MBA inspiring the next generation of ship designers! We really enjoyed being part of Harris’s innovation project! #design #engineering #innovation #inspiration #nextgeneration #futurethinking #marine #naval #architecture #technology #boats
⚡️🔬💡Inspiring the Next Generation of Green Innovators! Will your imagination change the world? That was the challenge set for South Tyneside pupils through the Little Inventors competition – delivered in collaboration with Dogger Bank Wind Farm and South Tyneside Council. Yesterday we got to celebrate the competition winner Harris Henderson, aged 10 from Sea View Primary School Harris wowed us all with his invention, ‘Hi Fish’ – a solar powered floating camera designed to monitor marine life and coral reef health without harming the environment. As the winner of the challenge, we brought his idea to life and presented Harris with a 3D model created using his design before stepping aboard the Grampian Derwent to see leading maritime technology and innovation in action and experience how the wind farm crew live whilst at sea. Joined by his Dad – Andrew Henderson, Steve Myers MBA, Cllr Margaret Meling – lead member of economic growth and transport, Equinor’s Tom Nightingale MCIM and Kay Doragh, Little Inventors – Dominic Wilcox and South Tyneside Councils Representatives – Alex Whelan and Lyndsey Gilmartin. At North Star we are committed to inspiring the next generation of engineers, innovators and sustainability champions. Well done, Harris! We can’t wait to see what you invent next 👏🏻 #RenewableEnergy #DoggerBank #FutureInnovators
