A big shout out to the wonderful Route Crime and Operational Resilience team from Network Rail Wessex Route! Last Friday, they generously volunteered their time to help us tackle some essential maintenance tasks around the Museum — and yes, aircraft dusting is fun as it sounds! To top it off, they were treated to the awesome sight of an Apache going through its paces over on the airfield— not a bad day at the office! Huge thanks to the team for all their hard work and support! #Volunteers #NetworkRail #AviationHeritage #ThankYou #MuseumLife

About us
The Army Flying Museum is home to a unique collection of military aviation history, one of both international and national importance. We give a fascinating and imaginative glimpse of “soldiers in the air” and life on the Home Front. Come and see our amazing selection of historic fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft, detailed dioramas, artefacts, trophies and models which serve as a profound and inspiring tribute to the Army and their machines. There are a range of interesting and engaging activities for children to enjoy including Museum trails, puzzles, games and simulators. Located next to a busy working Army Air Corps airfield, the Museum is a great place to drop in to our popular Apache Cafe. The Museum offers a fantastic event space - we are so much more than just a museum - we hold events throughout the year in all shapes and sizes. Additionally we offer ideal facilities for corporate and business needs - just with an aviation twist! Whoever you are and whatever you need - you are sure to find the Army Flying Museum a great place to be.

On Wednesday 19th March Willow class spent the day at the Army Flying Museum in Middle Wallop, Hampshire. The Museum tells the story of British Army Flying from the early days of military ballooning to the modern Army Air Corps. Over 40 aircraft can be seen in the Museum. These range from a First World War biplane to a HueyCobra attack helicopter, plus an example of every Allied glider used operationally during the Second World War. The class were taken around the museum and shown the development of aircraft from a very basic flying machine to more modern warcraft. They really enjoyed all the interactive activities, including puzzles, lego building, dressing up and sitting in different aircraft. 🚁 #OaklandsSchoolHungerford #TheOaklandsWay #ArmyFlyingMuseum #schooltrip #educationalvisit #interactivelearning #SENschool #learningisfun #aircraft #WillowClass #BritishArmy #aviation

We are thrilled to announce that local company ANDOVER NORTON INTERNATIONAL LIMITED, have shown their support for our annual fundraising event Wallop Wheels and Wings, which this year will take place on Saturday 12 July. The company, which was founded in 1977, is home to the biggest stock of Norton parts worldwide, selling more Norton factory spare parts for Norton Commandos, Dominators and other models, than anyone else in the World. The company are a perfect partnership for our fifth Wallop Wheels and Wings event as we look to grow the display and cavalcade of motorcycles in 2025, having already achieved record numbers of car exhibitors for this year’s event. Karl Smith, Managing Director of Andover Norton International said: “We’re incredibly proud to partner with the Army Flying Museum for their Wallop Wings and Wheels 2025 event. As a local business based in Andover, who're connected to a classic British motorcycle brand, it felt like a perfect affiliation. We can’t wait to attend and showcase some of our own incredible Classic Norton collection and see the vehicles on display on the day.” The confirmation of support from Andover Norton comes as very welcome news to us as we continue to grow from strength to strength with our packed event programme and record visitor numbers, following our Silver Award for Small Visitor Attraction of the year at the Beautiful South Awards in December. Chief Executive Lucy Johnson said: “Wallop Wheels and Wings is our main fundraising event for the charity and now, in its fifth year, we hope it will be bigger and better than ever. It is fantastic to have secured Andover Norton as a sponsor this year to develop the motorcycle element of the event and we are delighted to be working with them and can’t wait to see the array of Norton bikes on display.” #wallopwheelsandwings25 #events #museumlife #fundraising #norton #andover #localpartnerships

We have had the pleasure of Bruce coming along to the Museum to deliver two lectures regarding Operation Freshman. Both lectures are available to view on our website at www.armyflying.com. #lectureseries #militaryhistory
WWII LECTURE IN BOLTON I had a very enjoyable trip to Bolton last week. The presentation was a bit different from my usual talk, with more focus on the pre-Operation Freshman photo reconnaissance missions. Bolton is the home town of Flight Lieutenant Donald Higson, the pilot of the reconnaissance mosquito shot down over Norway while trying to photograph the Freshman glider landing site. During the evening I had the great pleasure of meeting the families of Flight Lieutenant Higson, and Sapper John Hunter - quite an emotional experience! The talk was very well attended, with 55 people at the lecture and a further 40 on Zoom. Later this week, I am travelling to East Norway where I will give a talk to Våle Historielag. Våle is where the reconnaissance Mosquito was shot down and I have been told they may have some parts of the aircraft to show me! I am also looking forward to the upcoming trip to Skitten, Caithness where the Memorial to the men lost on Operation Freshman will be rededicated on the 12th of April. Several of the Operation Freshman families will be represented there and I´m very much looking forward to meeting them in Scotland.
