UK - Anglo American

I was taken down Woodsmith Mine in Whitby today by Dave, who started his career in coal mining and is now a leader at Woodsmith. Hundreds of local people work here and it is an extraordinary feat of engineering to see up front. The mine is owned by Anglo American plc, who have hopes to develop what will become one of the world's largest fertiliser producing mines at the site, in what would be a major win for the government. The plan is very exciting for the UK, and the project could drive growth, create high-value jobs and generate exports.   So far, the company has invested £2.5bn into Woodsmith, and the project has already added an incredible £1.5bn to the regional economy.   Now, Anglo American is seeking investment partners to keep this drive for growth going, so that the positive impact on the community continues. Here in government, we are very supportive of the company’s efforts to ensure this project goes ahead - a clean energy superpower that supports regional growth and jobs.
