With a generous S$12 million commitment from the Li Ka Shing Foundation and Temasek Trust, NCCS is excited to partner NCIS to embark on clinical trials using a non-invasive ultrasound-based technology called histotripsy for patients with liver, kidney, and pancreatic cancers. In Singapore, liver cancer is the third most common cause of cancer death for men, with liver and pancreatic cancers among the top 10 causes of cancer mortality. These cancers often do not show symptoms until the later stages, making early detection and effective treatment difficult. Thank you to the Li Ka Shing Foundation and Temasek Trust for the strong support towards advancing cancer research by enabling us to study this innovative technology! Photos credit: Temasek Trust

🔊 New podcast alert #ResearchSpotlight Palliative surgery of peritoneal malignancies 🎧 🎧 🎧 https://lnkd.in/d9Yqc8KS 🎧 🎧 🎧 Palliative surgery is crucial in the management of peritoneal malignancies as it directly impacts the patients quality of life. These surgeries form a sizable proportion of surgical procedures performed in any surgical oncology service. Patient selection and decision making are all the more important as "The negative impact of a futile surgery could be much more than the benefit" There is MORE to LOSE than to gain Claramae Chia (surgical oncologist, National Cancer Centre Singapore) discusses key aspects of palliative surgery for peritoneal malignancies with #BrianBadgwell(surgical oncologist, MD Anderson Cancer Center, USA) and Jolene Wong (surgcial oncologist, National Cancer Centre, Singapore) that includes 💡 Implications of the term 'palliative' ⁉️ what proportion of surgical oncology procedures are 'palliative surgeries'? 💡 the importance of a multidisciplinary team 💡 timely introduction of palliative care ⁉️ Imaging signs that could help select the right patients for surgery 💡 counselling patients about the risks and benefits ⁉️ what is at 'stake'? 💡 patients' satisfaction and impact on quality of life 💡 surgical tips ⁉️ nutritional support #peritonealmalignancy #palliativesurgery #cancer #peritonealcancer #ovariancancer #pseudomyxomaperitonei #peritonealmesothelioma #PMP #colorectalcancer International Journal of Gynecological Cancer (IJGC) INDEPSO SPSOI Santiago González-Moreno, MD, PhD, FACS, FEBS, FESSO OncoDaily Dr. Praveen Kammar Surgical Oncologist Sanket Mehta AMARAPE - Association Contre Les Maladies Rares Du Péritoine Miguel E. This March, NCCS hosted the Arts and Humanities Festival 2025, exploring the intersection of medicine, art, and the human experience of dying. On 5 March 2025, a dramatised reading of 𝘈 𝘎𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘋𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩, written by Faith Ng, directed by Chen Yingxuan, and performed by Karen Tan, took the stage. Following Dr. Leong, a palliative care doctor, as she journeys with her patients through their final days, the play offered a tender meditation on dignity, legacy, and what it truly means to lean on one another. Later in the month, on 20 March, Prof. Rajeev S. Patke from Yale-NUS College delivered a thought-provoking lecture on how the humanities complement medical care by offering cultural, artistic, and literary perspectives on mortality. Drawing from global traditions in poetry, music, and art, he explored how different cultures shape our understanding of death and how we cope with our fears surrounding it. Through storytelling and the humanities, the festival highlighted the power of the arts in shaping compassionate, holistic approaches to healthcare.

Indeed, we are super excited to be officially certified to deploy Stereo-seq in our lab! Since our first publication in Blood last year demonstrating the easy application of this technology in our discovery toolbox at the Cancer Discovery Hub National Cancer Centre Singapore, we have started to adopt this spatial whole transcriptomic assay across several projects. Do keep a lookout for our upcoming papers! Reference: https://lnkd.in/gabq_NWc
We’re excited to announce Cancer Discovery Hub as our new Certified Service Provider (CSP). This partnership promises to bring state-of-the-art spatial transcriptomics technology, Stereo-seq, to a broader range of research communities. STOmics’ Stereo-seq technology is cutting-edge spatial multi-omics technology capable of achieving whole transcriptome detection at both cellular resolution and a large field of view simultaneously. Stereo-seq enables researchers to study gene expression within the context of tissue architecture, providing a deeper understanding of cellular organization, cell-cell interactions, functional networks, and spatiotemporal cellular dynamics. The Cancer Discovery Hub (CDH) is a one-stop pan-omics diagnostic and research core laboratory located at the National Cancer Centre Singapore. It specializes in advanced research-grade technologies and provides expert support and mentorship to investigators on all cancer-related projects. Looking forward to seeing what this partnership will unfold for the future of spatial biology research. About STOmics CSP program: The STOmics CSP program aims to facilitate fully trained platforms that run the Stereo-seq workflow. First successful demonstration of FLASH capabilities at the Goh Cheng Liang Proton Therapy Centre, National Cancer Centre Singapore on 5 March 2025, using the Hitachi Probeat Proton Therapy System. At dose rates of greater than 700 Gy/sec generated in the fixed beam room, the video captures the Cherenkov phenomenon, a blue glow when a charged particle passes through a medium at a speed greater than the phase velocity. Kudos to the NCCS team led by Prof Sung Yong Park and Hitachi, for this achievement. #NCCS #GCLPTC
