🌊 𝐒𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐚 𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 Excited to share that A*STAR Institute of High Performance Computing (A*STAR IHPC) is leading the Wind-Assisted Propulsion System (WAPS) Programme, supported by Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and Singapore Maritime Institute (SMI)! This initiative targets up to 30% fuel and emission savings in the near term by optimising sail-ship-voyage solutions from innovative WAPS start-ups like Advanced Wing Systems and GT Wings, leveraging vessel and route data from shipping partners like DryLog Ltd., Stolt Tankers, and Union Maritime Ltd. — with more companies expected to join. Wind propulsion serves as a complementary zero-emission solution, helping tackle immediate greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction challenges and supporting the IMO’s 2030 and 2040 decarbonisation goals. Beyond near-term gains, A*STAR IHPC is advancing mid- to long-term R&D on hybrid wind-propelled vessel concepts, aiming significant energy savings — a research pillar in the A*STAR Centre for Maritime Digitalisation (C4MD)’s research roadmap. With MPA and SMI’s support, the programme offers opportunities for test-bedding and real-world trials, accelerating the adoption of next-gen WAPS technologies. A*STAR IHPC will leverage physics-driven, machine learning–assisted coupled simulations, combined with route operational data analysis, to recommend designs and favourable routes for greater cost savings and emission reduction. Let’s chart a course toward sustainable, green shipping! 🌍⚓ Thank you, Eng Dih Teo, Chief Executive, MPA for witnessing this strategic milestone. 📷 MPA #IHPC #Innovation #Sustainability #MaritimeDecarbonisation #WindPropulsion
