📢 In less than one hour, the team composed of the Romanian Border Police, Romanian Customs and Frontex managed to thwart the plans of 2 persons who intended to smuggle over 2.6 million pieces of cigarettes from Ukraine to Romania. The team's success 👏 is even more impressive as cigarettes have been found hidden in the most inventive locations, such as the modified exhaust pipe of the car or among carefully stacked insulation materials. 👮♂️ Our EU border guard Ioannis, who supported the Romanian authorities in both cases, is well known among Frontex colleagues as being “a true professional, with a special and inexhaustible flair for detecting cross-border crime activities”. 🥳 Hats off to all of you, dear Romanian and Frontex colleagues!

Strategic issues in border management require strategic partnerships… because they produce very concrete results, as proven by the example of #Frontex and IOM - UN Migration cooperation in the Western Balkan region, particularly under the IPA Migration Project. Frontex Executive Director Hans Leijtens and the Director of the IOM Global Office Brussels Lukas Gherke have met in Warsaw to enhance the relation even further in the following areas: 🔄 coordinated efforts on return, readmission, and reintegration programs, combining our unique capabilities ⚙️ technical assistance to non-EU countries in integrated border management (with special emphasis on Ukraine, the Western Balkans, and West and North Africa) 📝 institutionalisation of bilateral cooperation by providing an adequate legal framework for future initiatives 🧩 strategic and operational coordination to avoid overlapping of functions and benefit from synergies Our successful cooperation, combining IOM’s field presence with Frontex’s operational capacity, will surely contribute to supporting Member States and partners in the field even more effectively.

🛑 Firearms trafficking is a growing threat. Especially in times of war and instability. Frontex, with the support of Member States like Poland, is stepping up. At the Polish Border Guard academy in Ketrzyn, we trained officers from 10 EU countries to better detect and stop the smuggling of firearms at the borders. With support from EU Member States and under the EMPACT initiative, we’re helping ensure that border security also means safer communities. Our aim is to equip frontline officers with the tools and knowledge to stop weapons before they reach our streets. 👉 Our message is clear: keeping Europe safe starts at the borders.

🏴☠️Counterfeit products, worth approximately 70.000 Euro, prevented from entering the black market. 🧐It was thanks to the vigilance and fruitful cooperation between the Bulgarian Border Police, Bulgarian Customs and Frontex. It happened in Lesovo border crossing point, on entry to Bulgaria from Türkiye. Over 1.400 garments and almost 900 pairs of slippers, bearing the insignia of famous brands, were transported in 2 vehicles, some having labels displaying prices up to 600 Euro for a t-shirt, for example. 👮👮♀️ “It is not easy to spot fake from original when it comes to counterfeit goods. But I work with professionals on daily basis and together we have become a serious obstacle for smugglers” said Cornel, our EU border guard involved in the discovery, referring to his Bulgarian counterparts. Great job, dear colleagues! Keep up the good work and close cooperation!
