What does #AdaptiveReuse look like in practice? Cundall’s team in Sydney has been busy answering this question. 121 Castlereagh Street has undergone a transformation from a heritage-listed department store into a luxury mixed-use tower. The former iconic David Jones store in the centre of Sydney’s busy #Retail hub now features 1,500 square metres of premium-grade office space, an upgraded retail podium, and an elevated residential addition featuring 98 luxury apartments. Cundall’s team provided #ESD consultancy services from the early design stage through to completion. Our team devised a strategy that preserved the historic façade while completely reimagining the interior, ensuring robust #Sustainability outcomes. Commenting on the project, Cundall's Julian Bott said: "This project is a true example of how thoughtful renovation can preserve history, enhance beauty, and enable older buildings to achieve outstanding sustainability." Great to partner with Cbus Property, Scentre Group (Owner of Westfield destinations in Aus and NZ) & fjcstudio. Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/e2tajgKx

“I joined the initiative because I know firsthand how important a bit of a guidance can be,” says Robert Marney reflecting on his recently received ‘Best Mentor of the Year’ award by The Amos Bursary. “These young adults have so much potential and I’m glad to be able to part of their journey finding success in what they enjoy.” The Amos Bursary is helping to positively shape the futures of Britain’s talented young people of African and Caribbean heritage, creating a more diverse workforce. Robert has been part of their mentoring scheme for over three years, being one of the first mentors from the built environment. As a business, helping and inspiring future talent is at the core of what we do, so we are proud of Robert's work supporting our next generation. Congratulations for receiving this well-deserved accolade! Read more: https://lnkd.in/eWMwrV49 #Mentor #FutureLeaders #NextGeneration

A good office refurb needs a great engineering team, a good fit-out and contractor and a creative interior designer that can deal with any challenge. Hence why Deborah Smith played a crucial role in our office move team, and her background in interior design enabled her to collaborate seamlessly with SPACE. Together, they ensured that the second-hand pieces we introduced to our office were cohesive. In the video, Debbie discusses the excellent working relationship they shared and how she ensured the office pieces met our workplace standards. She also offers advice to those looking to overcome hesitations about implementing circular economy furniture in their own offices. We look forward to sharing the final video in the coming weeks. #CircularEconomy #EdinburghWorkplace #OfficeMove

Yesterday, Sophie Simpson, Callum Kerr, and Alejandro Gomez Beltran presented our UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard breakfast briefing in Glasgow. As Cundall were an important contributor to the standard, our speakers provided an insight into the targets, the impact the standard has had on design teams and projects, and the reporting required to comply with the targets and limits. Thank you to all who attended and contributed to the conversation! “We are very excited to move into our new Edinburgh office. From the outset, we consulted with employees on their priorities and then created a collaborative and inclusive space with sustainable design principles at the centre.” A behind-the-scenes moment of John McLoughlin, Partner, working with Swift Films to introduce our new workspace in the Scottish capital. A driving force in our office relocation, it only felt right that he be the one to begin our showcase. We’re excited to reveal the full video in the coming weeks where we'll discuss some of the wonderful things integrated into our office including monitoring the air quality, our wellness space, and the circular economy. #EdinburghWorkspace #NewOffice #CircularEconomy

It was our pleasure to host IoD Property and Built Environment Group in our London office last week. Their Q1 Economic Outlook focused on best practices and innovation to create inclusive, sustainable, and socially beneficial places. The vital role of social value in shaping sustainable, inclusive, and resilient communities was highly discussed and it was great to hear people sharing project examples and lessons learned to shape a better future for everyone. 📣 Last week the IoD Property and Built Environment Group hosted their first Q1 Economic Outlook Event focusing on social value. Led by Chair of the group Christine Baltas, the panellists included Hazel Joseph and Jamie Quinn who explored the practical aspects of what the ’S’ in ESG really means for real estate and construction. 🤔 What is meant by the relationship of corporate real estate and communities, how is this measured and has the pandemic influenced our social spaces for the long term? A key aspect of consideration was ensuring diversity and inclusivity for tenants and workforce and local communities, the wider influence of technology, the importance of data and the demographic and socio economic spread across neighbourhoods. This all combines to ensuring that place making is not only fit for purpose but inclusive, enjoyable and safe. Stakeholder engagement and working in partnership with local council is paramount. As Hazel Joseph remarked, that architects prime reason to design is spaces for communities and social well being is the key element that underpins. Jamie Quinn also demonstrated the vast research and detail needs to ensure that social value is at the heart of their developments. Related Argent have been involved in some of the most vibrant place making across cities and provided some insights into the importance of deep understanding and appreciation of the socio economic balance. A fascinating and insightful study and the importance of place in our communities. 🙏🏽 Thank you to Cundall for their amazing hospitality and for hosting the event! #Property #Environment #SocialValue #London #Event #Networking
