Today, our Chief Technology and Sustainability Officer, Catarina Martins, joined industry leaders in London at the Blue Food Innovation Summit to discuss the critical role of blue foods in global food security. As part of a panel session on elevating Blue Foods, Catarina shared insights on how technology, innovation, and regulatory frameworks are essential to advancing sustainable aquaculture. This week, our annual report was released, outlining our 2024 results, where we saw strong operational and financial metrics, including record-high revenues of €5.62 billion and an all-time high harvest volume of 502k tonnes. Mowi CFO Kristian Ellingsen said: "2024 was another strong year for Mowi. The company achieved several milestones: operational revenue was the highest ever, driven by record-high volumes. In the farming segment, seawater production was the best ever, and stocking of postsmolt to sea reached a new high. Furthermore, Mowi set new volume and revenue records in consumer products and feed, as well as all-time high annual earnings in feed. The company continues to deliver on its three strategic pillars – volume growth, cost competitiveness and sustainability. At Mowi, our financial performance is driven by our commitment to delivering healthy, tasty, and nutritious seafood—produced efficiently and sustainably. We all know that salmon is one of the healthiest proteins we can eat, and according to new research published in Nature Ageing, Omega-3, the essential fatty acid found in oily fish, could also slow biological ageing. Led by Heike Bischoff-Ferrari from the Department of Geriatrics and Ageing Research at the University of Zurich, participants of the health trial took omega-3 supplements for three years and were found to have aged three months less, as measured by biological markers. However, those who combined omega-3 with vitamin D and regular strength training showed the most significant anti-ageing effects. This study adds to growing evidence that lifestyle choices, including having a healthy diet, vitamins, and regular exercise, can help slow the ageing process. Today is International Women's Day and Mowi would not be where it is today without the talent, passion, and dedication of our incredible female colleagues worldwide. Our goal is to increase the number of female employees across the business. As part of our commitment, our team at Mowi Scotland collaborates with Women in Scottish Aquaculture (WiSA) on a mentoring programme that matches established industry leaders with women in the sector looking to advance their careers. Emily Hill recently completed the WiSA mentoring programme and was assigned with Mowi Scotland's Training and Development Manager. Emily was encouraged to pursue her skills and passions and completed a Foundation Course in Environmental Management to help her secure a job in an environmental team. We are thrilled that Emily wanted to continue her career journey with Mowi, and she is now working full-time as an Environmental Analyst. "There's a lot to learn, but I have a really supportive team, and I am looking forward to my future in the industry and hopefully with Mowi!" #InternationalWomensDay

Mowi depends on a healthy ocean, and the presence of plastic and its fragmentation into microplastics in the marine ecosystem must be avoided. We avoid the unnecessary use of plastics in our operations and ensure that plastic waste is handled responsibly. We have a well-established monitoring and control programme for undesirable substances, such as microplastics, to ensure we supply healthy and sustainable seafood. Since implementing the programme, our monitoring results indicate that there are no plastic-related contaminants in our salmon. Overcoming the plastic waste challenge remains a crucial issue for our business, and as such, we focus on avoiding any plastic litter ending up at sea as a result of our farming activities, implement alternative packaging solutions, and continue to monitor the potential for microplastics and plastic-related contaminants in our fish. A post-closure environmental study was conducted around Mowi Scotland's former Loch Ewe site on the northwest coast of Scotland. Through the operational life of fish farms, environmental effects are limited and managed by a robust regulatory framework underpinned by standards that ensure the protection of the seabed and biodiversity. The aim of the study was to assess the environmental condition and seabed recovery following the closure of the farm. “There are many misconceptions about the environmental impact of the aquaculture industry. However, this project provides solid evidence that seabeds can recover upon cessation of fish farming operations.” Connie Fairburn, Senior Environmental Analyst, Mowi Scotland. A healthy environment is imperative to Mowi, and we will continue to ensure the optimal growing conditions for our salmon.
