It's clear to me that we are entering a third wave of e-mobility. Behind the scenes, EV charging involves complex challenges spanning technology, regulations, compliance, cybersecurity, business models, and installation requirements. To effectively tackle these challenges, it's essential to stay in your lane. From day one, we've specialized exclusively in AC hardware. We intentionally chose not to develop a backend system, apps, or numerous other features—not because we couldn't, but because we have a clear vision of the future of EV charging. We believe dedicated software companies develop superior software compared to all-over-the-place manufactures who try to do everything themselves. We have seen this in other industries as well as they mature (set-top boxes and networking). Additionally, customers—whether end-users, charge point operators, or infrastructure providers—should never be trapped in proprietary systems. Charging should be simple and reliable. No fluff. No cloud you didn’t ask for. OCPP provides an excellent way to ensure freedom of choice, but only if implemented properly. Avoiding shortcuts such as OCPP proxies or pass-through methods is crucial. Sam Rawson made an excellent point about SIM-card lock-in in his latest post, and I completely agree with him. Back to the third wave: amina was designed specifically for this new era, where hardware and software are clearly separated, 4G eSIM ownership remains with operators, and charging solutions become genuinely customer-centric. amina is provisioned from factory and built to lower the total cost of ownership. This in turn is important, as it enables profitable business models in the entire business eco system. No money – no business.
