Biotechnologie is belangrijk voor een sterke, concurrerende en toekomstbestendige economie. Hiermee kunnen we voorkomen dat we te veel afhankelijk worden van andere landen. Denk bijvoorbeeld aan het ontwikkelen van planten die beter bestand zijn tegen droogte, zodat we ook in de toekomst genoeg voedsel kunnen verbouwen. Nederland heeft al een goede positie: we hebben veel kennis en er zijn veel bedrijven actief in biotechnologie. Om mondiaal tot de kopgroep te behoren, moeten we duidelijk hebben wat we willen bereiken met biotechnologie. Daarom heb ik samen met staatssecretaris Chris Jansen het initiatief genomen tot een rijksbrede visie biotechnologie, die vandaag is aangeboden aan de Tweede Kamer. Ons doel is een sterk systeem waarin kennis wordt ontwikkeld, gedeeld en toegepast. Om biotechnologie te laten groeien, is het belangrijk dat er genoeg ruimte is voor innovatie, onderzoek en investeringen. Ook moet er een goede markt zijn in Nederland. We kiezen er daarom voor om onze innovatiemiddelen slimmer in te zetten, zodat ideeën sneller de markt bereiken. Het is belangrijk dat nationale en Europese regelgeving aansluit op de nieuwste wetenschappelijke kennis en er in Europa een gelijk speelveld is. Zo kan biotechnologie de Nederlandse economie nu en in de toekomst versterken. As part of the Cell Production Technology project (Biomed05), we are developing next-generation bioreactor technology, incorporating innovative sensor solutions for precise process control. One exciting aspect of this work is continuous monitoring of cell death—a crucial factor in optimising bioprocesses.
