We stand with nature. It gives us everything. Sanctuary, food, shelter. Without asking for anything back. Across the world, nature is under threat, so we’re uniting with Greenpeace and Greenpeace Brasil to safeguard one of the most important ecosystems on the planet: the Amazon. 🌿 Sign the petition to Respect the Amazon here: https://lnkd.in/dTrzvfGb Support the communities who safeguard it, and defend the wildlife that calls it home. Happy World Art Day! At WaterBear Network we're nature appreciators and we understand art not only reflects and represents the natural world but also plays a significant role in shaping our understanding of it, encouraging dialogue and action for the protection of our environment. We want to celebrate this day highlighting the work of a series of artists we love who have used nature as their main inspiration. Who would you add to this list? 👇

Storytelling is at the core of everything we do at WaterBear. Stories allow us to connect with ideas that may seem distant and mobilize action. In the short film Radio Dadaab, we meet Fardowsa, a resilient journalist born and raised in Dadaab, Kenya, the world’s second-largest refugee camp. Created as a sanctuary for those fleeing civil war in Somalia, Dadaab is now home to hundreds of thousands who are forced to leave their homes not just due to conflict, but also because of the devastating impacts of climate change. Lacking citizenship and rights, she channels her passion into amplifying the voices and stories of those affected by drought, hunger, and displacement. Don't miss her story, along with the stories of thousands of others. Have you noticed a change in your city? Climate whiplash is the rapid shift between opposing weather extremes, such as drought to flooding, or intense heat to harsh cold. Across the world, global heating is causing traditionally wet cities to become dry, or arid cities to grapple with floods, resulting in significant disruption and destruction for city dwellers. Investment in reliable climate-resilient water is essential to help communities recover from the aftermath of climate whiplash. We’ve been known as the "Netflix for Nature," but as we grow and evolve (like everybody does) we are undergoing a significant transformation in our operations and content strategy. Today, we are focusing on an entertainment-led originals strategy while expanding into social media, creating new opportunities for creators with environmental credentials. Poppy Mason-Watts sat down with Gün Akyuz from C21Media and discussed what it means to keep it true to ourselves while also understanding the power of becoming a multi-media platform. Here’s a summary of the takeaways: ● Our main content priorities? Environmental, social justice and humanitarian-led content. ● What are we looking for? We’re always looking for [shortform] finished films and stories, with a sweet spot between five and 20 minutes. We have a set budget, and what we’ve said to a lot of filmmakers is that while we can’t pay the big bucks of a bigger platform, we can offer marketing in kind, and access to an ecosystem. ● Our main challenge over the next year? To tap the creator economy beyond those “who have built their wares on YouTube and sit more in the influencer space. I’m talking about how we bring in scientists and academics and journalists. It’s really thinking about the range of different storytellers and filmmakers. Read more here >> https://lnkd.in/eJ2fjTXX

What does it take to thrive under pressure? The Guardian's Invertebrate of the Year competition celebrated nature’s unsung heroes, with the water bear – Milnesium tardigradum – taking the crown. This microscopic marvel has survived mass extinctions, space travel, and decades without food or water. Curious why this spineless legend captured global attention and became our namesake? Thanks IPG Mediabrands for having us! Always a great time with Mairead Cahill.
A big thank you to WaterBear Network, WONDEROOM and our very own Open Environmental Network for hosting a special screening of Sea, Land & City, followed by a Q&A session with the supremely talented filmmaker and founder Mairead Cahill. A film centred on nature positive solutions and stories for collective action, it was a special opportunity to hear from its creator about the background, mission and key takeaways, as well as learn about the brilliant work WaterBear Network has been doing to unearth stories of climate and social justice across its platform. Thank you Mairead Cahill, Sasha Alexander, Jonny Siskind, Olivia Wilton and all who helped to organise 🍃 #IPGMBOpen #sustainability

The "network" part of WaterBear Network is one of the things that sets us apart. It's a unique opportunity to bring together NGOs, activists, scientists, filmmakers, photographers, artists, purpose driven brands, conservationists (and the occasional grammy nominated DJ) to shine a light on key issues and inspire people to take action. Over the weekend, we premiered a really special story on WaterBear through a collaboration with the wonderful Lauren Bash. Many documentaries about veganism and plant based diets are really focused on the systematic issues of the meat and dairy industry, and can be hard to watch and alienating to people who already maybe feel a little guilty about their diets. 'Gimme My Medicine' is not that. It's a deeply personal, entertaining, simultaneously joy-filled and tear-inducing short film – and a must watch. It's touching and reflective, but also has an urgency to it that springs you into action. There was a lot of work (and love) behind the scenes to bring this to life on WaterBear, from redesigning our collective mission pages, introducing the ability to host vertical films and starting to test out having creator profiles. Exciting stuff and so proud of the team for making it all happen! So go watch it. Browse Lauren & Neil's favourite recipes. Send it to your friends. Have more conversations about the impact of our diets. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did. https://lnkd.in/e9mGxymC

What a fantastic evening hosting circularity and sustainability leaders at our Campus mixer during the Ellen MacArthur Foundation’s Keystone event in Amsterdam last week! For those who may not know, Campus - born from the partnership between WaterBear Network and the Foundation - is the first circularity and impact training platform that combines storytelling, entertainment, and social media technology to make learning truly engaging. We had inspiring conversations about how employees can drive real transformation from within - and how storytelling can create emotional connections with sustainability challenges, motivating global workforces to take action. A huge thank you to the incredible brands who joined us: Zalando, ASOS.com, CHANEL, Essity, Philips, the LEGO Group, and Google. How is your company engaging employees on sustainability? #Sustainability #EmployeeEngagement #Storytelling #CircularEconomy
