What we do Lignitec is dedicated to advancing biobased materials that can serve as eco-friendly alternatives to conventional fiberboards like MDF, triplex, OSB, and high-pressure laminate. These traditional materials frequently rely on chemical adhesives and find extensive use in the furniture and construction sectors. Materials bonded with such adhesives pose a threat to both human health and the environment due to their carcinogenic properties. These materials persistently release these harmful chemicals throughout their entire lifecycle, contributing to unhealthy indoor environments. Towards the end of their lifecycle, these materials become challenging to recycle due to the presence of these adhesives, leaving us with few options aside from landfill disposal or incineration. At Lignitec, we believe in the existence of smarter alternatives that are entirely biobased, enabling us to repurpose waste materials from the furniture and construction industries, thereby reducing CO2 emissions and offering a healthy, sustainable substitute for more traditional materials.renewable sources and offers great potential. We are fully dedicated to making a meaningful impact on building a more sustainable and intelligent economy and built environment.

Today, the final presentations for the BuckyLab course in the Mastertrack Building Technology took place at the Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment, TU Delft . At the Lignitec workshop at YES!Delft , we had the pleasure of supporting one of the groups in creating their bio-based façade panels. Their hard work paid off, resulting in a remarkable prototype of their façade! It’s always a pleasure to be at BouwLab R&Do in Haarlem, this time for the Innovation Dinner on "Modular and Circular Construction." During the event, Professor Emeritus Thijs Asselbergs highlighted how societal challenges such as climate change, housing shortages, material depletion, and an aging population call for a transformative approach to architecture, design, and construction. He emphasized the importance of leveraging the potential of digital design and manufacturing to address these pressing issues. At the same time, it is crucial to ensure that this shift does not come at the expense of the architectural values of the buildings themselves or the impact on the urban design (stedebouwkundig ontwerp). Striking a balance between innovation and the preservation of aesthetic, cultural, and functional aspects of architecture will be essential for creating spaces that are not only sustainable and efficient but also meaningful and harmonious within their urban contexts. Lignitec's bio composites fit seamlesly into this vision.

Lignitec partnered up with NoWa Kitchen , SAM Panels, Welbions , Centraal Orgaan opvang asielzoekers (COA), The Green Village and Hegeman Bouwgroep to develop the most circular kitchen made possible by Lignitec’s clean and sustainable materials. This amazing project has been awarded the KIA-CE (Knowledge and Innovation Agenda Circular Economy; Topsector Energiesubsidie van het Ministerie van Economische Zaken en Klimaat) subsidy thanks to the help of Benedict Peax.
