Today's first Lunch and Talk of 2025 at the HSD Campus was a great success, with a large turnout of attendees! Yannick Maltha, CEO of UbiOps - Private AI on any infra, shared insights into the latest GenAI models, including the newly launched Deepseek. He also answered questions from the Netherlands and Europe about whether closed-source or open-source solutions will lead the generative AI race.
Yannick’s key takeaway was that while it's clear that the future is still uncertain, we are only at the beginning of this new AI space race. The debate raises important questions about what Europe can and should do to protect its long-term interests and reduce dependence on Big Tech. He also discussed the development of GenAI open-source models and frameworks, highlighting the increasing importance of concepts like Sovereign and Private AI in Europe with concrete examples.
𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬:
▶️ We are likely to see a hybrid mix of Public vs Private AI; it’s not an either/or situation.
▶️ Systems like ChatGPT are excellent for exploring AI's potential efficiently but leave European organisations exposed to risks.
▶️ Open-source is growing rapidly and is nearly on par with closed-source offerings like OpenAI. It provides greater control over model behavior and outcomes, is more cost-effective (lightweight), and is flexible enough to fine-tune with your own data—ensuring the models and data remain with you.
▶️ Organisations are shifting from a ‘cloud-first strategy’ to hybrid or even on-premise setups due to rising costs and compliance requirements.
A big thank you to everyone who joined, and to Yannick Maltha for his captivating talk!
