European Space Agency - ESA's #CubeSat Industry Days are fast approaching! Join us to learn more about our upcoming missions, including newly approved #LUMIO, which will uncover the asteroid impacts on the Moon’s far side, or #HENON, ESA’s first standalone deep-space CubeSat. *Spoiler Alert* We might even be bringing some brand new results from one of our technology demonstrations to the stage. On 22 December 2032, a 60-metre asteroid might crash into the Moon ☄️ Scientists and experts from ESA Space Safety have been tracking asteroid 2024 YR4, and while we know it won’t hit Earth, there is currently about a 4% chance it could smash into the lunar surface. If that happens, it will be a rare chance to watch a big space rock leave its mark on our cosmic neighbour in real time. We are not just sitting around and waiting – we have been keeping an eye on lunar impacts for years and will soon launch the #LUMIO #CubeSat mission that will observe them on the far side of the Moon – the half we can’t see from Earth.   LUMIO is being developed as a technology demonstration through ESA’s General Support Technology Programme (#GSTP). Engineers from European Space Agency - ESA successfully tested a new radio beamforming concept – developed, patented and prototyped in the Agency’s Microwave Laboratory 📡 The key to the success of this innovative idea lies in a relatively simple concept – natural geometrical symmetry of antennas and radio beams 👉 https://lnkd.in/euAhEQwS The prototype was tested in HERTZ – an anechoic chamber that is part of the Antenna Testing Facility at ESTEC in the Netherlands. Through the cooperation of the Antenna and Microwave laboratories, ESA covers end-to end engineering capabilities from design and simulation to prototyping and testing. This suite of facilities is also available for industries and research institutes for their own R&D purposes.

We are honoured to have welcomed Slovenia’s Ambassador Jožef Drofenik and Gregor Frank, Minister of Plenipotentiary, to ESTEC for their first visit as an ESA Member State. Slovenia has been collaborating with ESA since 2008 and on 1 January 2025 it became the Agency’s 23rd Member State. During the delegation’s tour of ESTEC, we showcased some of our testing facilities and groundbreaking projects that drive innovation in the space industry.
