Last year, I sat in the lecture hall as a RSM Business Information Management Master student. Today, I stood in front of the class—together with my Clever Republic colleagues Rixt Baerveldt and Aura Orval—to deliver a guest lecture on AI Governance. We broke down how AI Governance builds on strong Data Governance foundations. We explored the EU AI Act, challenged students with a risk-based AI use case game, and discussed how to make AI both compliant and valuable for business using Collibra A big thank you to Sameer Mehta and Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University for having us.

Masterclass Digital Compliance ⚖️   Last week, our team attended an inspiring Digital Compliance masterclass by Kylie de Kok. She covered the most important compliance regulations, including the AI Act, and shared some of her best practices. To wrap up, we designed our own high-risk AI model—a fun and educational exercise that showed the risks involved in AI.   It was an interesting session that showed the importance of engaging people in digital compliance and finding the right balance between innovation and regulation. SMEs and Sustainable Finance: The Missing Data Piece Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) generate over 50% of the EU’s GDP and account for 63% of enterprise CO₂ emissions. Their role in Europe's sustainability transition is massive. But here is the challenge — most SMEs self-finance their green projects and struggle to access external funding. Why? 🔹 High loan thresholds 🔹 Complex regulations 🔹 Lack of harmonised green finance definitions 🔹 Insufficient sustainability-related data Data — or the lack of it — is a critical bottleneck. Financial institutions and value chain partners increasingly require Taxonomy-aligned information. But for many SMEs, compliance is overwhelming. The EU Platform on Sustainable Finance proposes an SME sustainable finance standard — a simplified framework helping SMEs classify their financing as green or transition finance. Yesterday I attended a SAP event at the Lotto Park stadium in Brussels 🏟️ — and what an inspiring day!   SAP gave us a peek into the future with their upcoming 𝗦𝗔𝗣 𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗖𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗱 (𝗕𝗗𝗖). While many organisations are still getting to grips with Datasphere, SAP is already moving forward. The good news? If you're already investing in Datasphere, you're not wasting effort — it's all part of the BDC journey.   🔹 My key takeaways: • 𝗕𝗗𝗖 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗱-𝘁𝗼-𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. Connect your core SAP apps (like ERP) and boom: data products get created automatically, with insights generated right out of the box. • 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 Databricks 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽, BDC also enables powerful integration between SAP and non-SAP data sources. • That makes tools like 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗯𝗿𝗮 more important than ever — the glue that binds everything together, where data meets governance and business context.   Also great to catch up with Chris Unwin — and yes, the Collibra football 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴 match perfectly with the Clever Republic beach ball 😎.
