#WorldHealthDay: What if we could predict and act on health crises before they escalate? 🌡 🦠This vision is becoming a reality. With anticipatory action, we can transform how we manage epidemics as can be seen in the Early Action Protocol (EAP) for cholera outbreak preparedness, championed by the Cameroon Red Cross Society. 🚰This EAP, developed in collaboration with Croix-Rouge française, integrates climate risk data, community-based surveillance and real-time triggers, empowering early interventions to stop cholera outbreaks before they spread. 🚀The cholera EAP is the first-ever epidemic protocol validated by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC, setting an important precedent for scaling up anticipatory action for health. 🌍 We are happy to announce that Deltares, together with Made Smart Group BV and 510 - The Netherlands Red Cross' data & digital team, will be deploying 3 pilot services to Destination Earth (DestinE) - the European Union’s ambitious initiative to create a highly accurate Digital Twin of Earth. 🔹 Global forecasts of storm surge, tide, and currents (core service) 🔹 Forecasting compound flood impacts in the Philippines 🔹 Optimising global shipping routes Our core service builds on Deltares’ Global Tide and Surge Model (GTSM) and Global Storm Surge Information System (GLOSSIS), integrated into the DestinE platform. The Philippines project builds on previous work where we, alongside KNMI - Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute, TECNALIA Research & Innovation, SURFACE LIBRE), and 510 - The Netherlands Red Cross' data & digital team, demonstrated how high-resolution global weather forecasts can help mitigate flooding in vulnerable areas. This effort contributes to one of the Deltares’ ambitions: making the world’s population safer from flooding. Kun Yan, Senior Researcher in Coastal Flood Forecasting at Deltares: “We are very excited to continue working with European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts - ECMWF and contribute to the ambitious Destination Earth program!” Thanks to: Kun Yan, Albrecht Weerts, Björn Backeberg, Frederiek Sperna Weiland, Tammo Zijlker, Floortje Roelvink, Tycho Bovenschen, @ Willem Tromp. #EnablingDeltaLife #DestinationEarth #FloodResilience #ClimateAction #SustainableFuture

🌍❤ This #InternationalWomensDay, we celebrate the incredible women across the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement who are driving innovation and inclusion in humanitarian aid. #IWD25 Meet our project coordinator, Liselot Kattemölle. Liselot works hard to ensure that digital humanitarian solutions are accessible, inclusive, and truly reflective of the communities they serve. We sat down with Liselot to reflect on her journey in the humanitarian sector, and the role of data and digital tools in reducing inequalities. 📢 “We need to improve access to technology, but access isn’t universal or experienced equally. We need to consider how factors like gender, race, class, and digital literacy shape people’s experiences with – and barriers to – technology.” Read the full conversation and join us in recognizing the women leading change at the intersection of data, digital, and humanitarian aid! ⬇

When crisis strikes, it is vital that information on how to access assistance is easy to find for affected communities. To achieve this, the Georgia Red Cross Society has implemented the Digital Engagement Hub (DEH), revolutionizing how they connect with communities in need. By integrating phone calls, Facebook and WhatsApp messages into one streamlined platform, DEH enables faster, more coordinated responses, allowing the National Society to address community needs with greater efficiency. Its scalability, adaptability and readiness for new tech makes DEH more than just a communications tool – it strengthens humanitarian impact by empowering engagement, equipped to meet the evolving demands of people affected.❤️ 🗞Read more👇
