Michael Coulter, Global Defence CEO of #Hanwha, made his first official visit to Poland since assuming his position in December 2024, spending March 10–12 in the country. Upon arriving at the Warsaw office of #HanwhaAerospaceEurope, CEO emphasized the company’s commitment to long-term cooperation in the region: "Poland plays a critical role in NATO’s #EasternFlank, and we recognize the importance of strengthening its defense capabilities through industrial cooperation and #TechnologyTransfer," said Michael Coulter. "A great example of this approach is the #Homar_K system, developed in cooperation with leading Polish defense companies like Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa S.A. and WB GROUP. With fast, often ahead-of-schedule deliveries and the full backing of the Korean government, we provide battle-proven land, naval, and space solutions. Our commitment goes beyond supply—we ensure full localization through deep cooperation with local industry, delivering both cutting-edge capabilities and long-term strategic partnerships." As the head of global defense operations for #HanwhaAerospace, #HanwhaSystems, and #HanwhaOcean, Coulter held a series of meetings at the headquarters of key Polish defense sector companies. Discussions focused on strengthening industrial cooperation and advancing technological partnerships between Hanwha and the Polish defense sector. A key pillar of EU defence and NATO security alliance, Norway operates 155mm/52-calibre K9 VIDAR Self-Propelled Howitzers (SPHs) and K10 Ammunition Resupply Vehicles (ARVs), manufactured and delivered by Hanwha Aerospace, under contracts signed in 2017 and 2022. The artillery was designed to provide rapid, precise and powerful indirect fire support in the battlefield, with growth potential for upgraded capabilities. The K9 ensures significant tactical advantages in both offensive and defensive operations. Powered by a 1,000 horsepower engine, the tracked artillery boasts of excellent maneuverability over diverse terrains such as snowy field and desert. Hanwha Aerospace has received Approval in Principle (AIP) certification from DNV for our 200kW hydrogen fuel cell system designed for maritime applications. The certification ceremony took place on March 12th at our R&D Center in Pangyo, with Executive Director Dong Jo Oh of Hanwha Aerospace and Vice President Sung-ho Shin of DNV in attendance. This certification, following our previous approval from the Korean Register of Shipping, validates that our technology meets rigorous international safety and performance standards. With this certification, Hanwha Aerospace is positioned to begin full-scale marketing of our maritime hydrogen fuel cells globally and secure type approval for our Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell technology. The President of the Republic of #Poland, Andrzej Duda, following yesterday’s meeting with NATO Secretary General NATO Mark Rutte, noted—based on Poland’s experience in cooperation with #SouthKorea—the importance of swift deliveries of advanced military equipment. During a joint conference at the Alliance headquarters in Brussels, he emphasized this aspect in the context of the defense needs of NATO’s European members. "(...) The reason why we are buying from South Korea is very simple. We saw that our Korean partners are able to provide us with very modern equipment within just a few months—both the K2 tanks, which we have already purchased, the #K9 howitzers, as well as the #Chunmoo Missile Launchers. The delivery deadlines were set at one year from the placement of the order, whereas other partners are offering a time span of a couple of years or even several years to deliver military equipment. We have to rebuild our capabilities, and this is a major task—not only for Poland but for #NATO as a whole. That was also one of the topics of our discussion with the Secretary General."
