The Nilgiris is known for its rich biodiversity, but it’s true strength lies within the indigenous communities who have safeguarded them for generations. In Tamil Nadu, the India-UK PACT programme is supporting these communities with tools to monitor and protect their environment and traditional knowledge. At a recent visit to Aracode in the Nilgiris, British Deputy High Commissioner in Chennai, Halima Holland went to see first-hand how the programme is positively impacting the local communities and their ecosystem. She also launched a dashboard, enabling data-driven decision making over the next year with potential for scaling across multiple Indian states. This initiative highlights the power of collaboration between the communities, government, and international partners in tackling environmental challenges. Precision agriculture -- driven by data, AI and advanced technology -- is shaping the future of food and agriculture in India. Five UK-based agri-tech companies who travelled across India got to see this firsthand - interacting with start-ups, researchers, and industry leaders to explore how cutting-edge technology is revolutionising Indian farming. Through interactive discussions and site visits, the delegation gained a better understanding of India’s diverse agricultural landscape and the market to introduce for tech tailored to the Indian industry’s needs. Lots of great opportunities for closer collaboration between the UK and India for a smarter, more sustainable future for farming. Read more about the programme here: https://ow.ly/gViG50VcB51

A new partnership between the UK and India is helping our workforce develop the skills needed to meet the evolving demands of global industries. The UK Skills Partnership (UKSP) and Confederation of Indian Industry are working together to train 500 million people under the Skill India Mission. The programme also helps offer UK training providers unparalleled access to India’s rapidly growing market. This landmark partnership builds on a series of joint initiatives demonstrating the power of our bilateral partnership in building human capital and supporting business growth: - In 2022, over 30,000 Indian professionals were trained in advanced manufacturing techniques, with UK experts providing technical guidance and curriculum development support. - The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) in India, in partnership with UK training providers, launched sector-specific skill programmes for the IT and renewable energy sectors to help bridge the skills gap, enhance employability and boost industry growth.
