What are the implications of a degrowth model for Indian agriculture? 💡 "Both regenerative agriculture and the degrowth movement advocate for a shift away from exploitative, extractive farming practices towards ecological health and community well-being. [...] Degrowth in agriculture is not about producing less food but about redefining the goals and values of the agricultural system," writes Shatadru Chattopadhayay, Managing Director, Solidaridad Asia, in "Degrowth and the Reimagining of Indian Agriculture", a special issue brief for the Observer Research Foundation. 🌿 👩🌾 👨🌾 🔗 Know more about the origins of the degrowth movement, and how this approach can rejuvenate India's farms and villages: https://lnkd.in/g8vKvyNY Solidaridad Network | Solidaridad Asia | Observer Research Foundation | Shatadru Chattopadhayay | Andre de Freitas | Dr. Nilanjan Ghosh #Degrowth #RegenerativeAgriculture #FarmersFirst #FPOModel #DemocraticEconomy #LongRead

𝑺𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒃𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒚 𝑨𝒔𝒔𝒆𝒔𝒔𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝑰𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒑𝒆𝒏𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑭𝒂𝒓𝒎𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝑴𝒂𝒍𝒂𝒚𝒔𝒊𝒂 Our team in Sarawak recently conducted a sustainability assessment (SA) with five oil palm smallholders from Kampung Abok, Sri Aman district, to evaluate their practices and their impact on the environment and community. 🌴 💧 At the village head’s home, the participants answered the questions in the SA form: 👉 General information about their operations 👉 Details of traceability back to the smallholder level 👉 Compliance with legal requirements and transparency 👉 Adherence to good agricultural practices (GAPs) with a focus on environmental and social impacts Next, the assessment took our team on a visit of the smallholders’ farms. They observed, first-hand, how the smallholders manage their land. The team also learned about the methods they employ to nurture their crops and protect the surrounding environment. During the visit, the team also shared advanced knowledge on GAPs with the smallholders. The farmers, in turn, demonstrated a strong willingness to learn more and keep practising the lessons in alignment with the principles of sustainable oil palm cultivation. 💚 🤝 Solidaridad Asia | Solidaridad Malaysia | Law Chu Chien | Maria Ariessa | Rinie Suliman #SustainablePalmOil #SustainabilityMetrics #SustainabilityAssessment #RegenerativeAgriculture
