People & Planet First is a robust verification mark for social enterprises which is recognised globally and adopted in 130+ counties. The verification focuses on five core standards: Purpose: We exist to solve a social and/or environmental problem. Operations: We prioritise purpose, people and planet over profit in operational decisions. Revenue: We have a self-sustaining revenue model. Reflecting this evening on the second Discovery Programme residential which I attended with fellow co-founder of React Social, Orla Ward last week in the beautiful North Coast. Aside from the top class location and hospitality we were once again captivated by the workshops by Sam Marchetti, this time on development, sales and growth. His call to action was clear ‘Without actions, strategy will stay on the page’ 💡 Georgina Grieve told the story of The Workspace Group - an example of how the right people with the right motivations and passions can make huge impact. After setting up a few contacts for the coming weeks with some of the fellow participants to explore collaboration, we were finished up in time to enjoy some beautiful sunshine and views ☀️ Thank you to Social Enterprise Northern Ireland and Social Enterprise Republic of Ireland for organising everything and to International Fund for Ireland for making this possible. #socialenterprise #impact #discoveryprogramme #collaboration

In partnership with the Department of Rural and Community Development, SERI has been rolling out a pilot People and Planet First accreditation programme for #socialenterprise. Last week, we announced the first 18 accredited social enterprises in Ireland. I'm proud to say that GIY is part of the first wave of social enterprises in Ireland to get the global People and Planet First accreditation, a project led by Social Enterprise Republic of Ireland and Department of Rural and Community Development; and we're also on the project steering group. It's a critical step for social enterprises (particularly non charity ones that don't have a charity number) that we have an easily recognised accreditation that proves we put people and planet first, and embrace good governance.
