I attended Barry O'Sullivan presentation today, and his message was blunt and urgent. Ireland is not just behind - we're 5+ years behind and falling further behind every day. O'Sullivan agreed with the Minister's long-term vision of planning for the next 100 years, but emphasised that without immediate action, we'll never catch up. His call to engineers was direct and uncompromising: 1. Cut through the bureaucracy that's stifling innovation 2. Take risks - "No risk means you'll never create anything" 3. Provide practical technical solutions instead of getting stuck in administrative processes He stressed that while white-collar jobs have "mushroomed," there's been little advancement in how we tackle #innovation and #value #creation. O'Sullivan's "New Ireland" vision requires engineers to be bold, challenge the expanding bureaucracy, and focus on implementation rather than administration. The message was clear: Ireland needs engineers willing to get things done, take calculated risks, and provide the sound technical advice necessary to accelerate our digital transformation before we fall even further behind. Shannon Chamber of Commerce fantastic lineup!

To wrap up the epic 50th anniversary celebration at the annual conference of the Irish Planning Institute, proudly sponsored by Comhairle Cathrach na Gaillimhe / Galway City Council, we had a walking tour of the Port of Galway led by Conor O'Dowd who described the future extension of the port and the incredible regeneration opportunity that presents, with a word from Niall O' Byrne of the The Land Development Agency on what the agency is doing to bring about the first phase of that regeneration. This was followed by a trip up Bonham Quay with our hosts Edward Capital, generously organised by Paddy Mc Donald. Huge thanks to all involved. It was a fitting conclusion to an inspiring event, celebrating achievement to date while looking forward to future delivery.

🌍 This week, some of the Tom Phillips + Associates management team had the opportunity to attend the Irish Planning Institute Annual Planning Conference 2025 in the beautiful Salthill, Galway City! 🌟 We were fortunate to experience some wonderful weather throughout the event, adding to the already vibrant atmosphere of the conference. The presentations were incredibly insightful, offering valuable perspectives on the future of planning in Ireland and beyond. The discussions were thought-provoking, and we are leaving with plenty of ideas and inspiration to drive our work forward. Gavin Lawlor, Director at TPA and President of the IPI noted in his opening address; “We regularly hear from the political system - particularly at national level - that planning - and by extension planners - is a problem and the source of all our housing and infrastructure issues. I don't believe that, I believe that planners solve problems, not create them." A big thank you to the Irish Planning Institute for hosting such a well-organised event, and to all the speakers and attendees for making it a truly engaging experience. Looking forward to applying all the knowledge gained and continuing to be a part of such a forward-thinking industry. 🌱 #Planning #IrishPlanningInstitute #TPA #Salthill #Galway #Networking #ContinuousLearning #UrbanPlanning #FutureOfPlanning #PlanningForTheFuture
