In light of the upcoming regulatory review and the expected #DigitalNetworksAct by the European Commission, POLITICO Europe, in co-operation with GSMA - Policy and Regulation, organised a panel discussion titled Scaling up Europe’s telecom sector. What the incoming Digital Networks Act holds for the competitiveness of the telecom sector, and where the investments will come from, were among the questions addressed by the panelists. During the discussion, #BEREC Chair Robert Mourik (Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg), Ireland) emphasised that “the next periodic review of the European Union’s telecoms regulatory framework is of particular significance considering the step-changes in technological developments and Europe’s overall competitiveness as compared to other regions. BEREC is ready to contribute to the European Commission’s review, and we believe it is important that it is carried out in conjunction with a review of other relevant legislation that impacts the sector.” #empoweringEUconnectivity #connectivity #telecoms #DNA #ScalingUpTelecoms

In light of the review of the #EECC and intensified discussions on the copper switch-off, how can regulations support the #FTTH network rollout and uptake?💡 This was the main subject of discussions during the Policy and Regulation Panel at the FTTH Conference 2025, organised by the FTTH Council Europe on 26 March 2025. During the session, #BEREC Chair Robert Mourik (Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg), Ireland) highlighted that “across Europe, consumers and businesses benefit from new technologies and services through the rollout and take-up of very high-capacity networks (VHCNs). Investment in infrastructure, including in fiber to the premises and VHCNs, is crucial for enabling European citizens and businesses to avail of the latest digital transformation opportunities, ultimately enhancing quality of life in Europe and driving competition in European and global markets.” Together with the distinguished panelists, the BEREC Chair further discussed implications of developments, exploring the balance between fostering competition, ensuring sustainability, and driving investment. Moreover, the panel provided insights into how regulatory frameworks can support a seamless transition to full #fibre networks while addressing key challenges and opportunities. #empoweringEUconnectivity #FTTH25 #VHCN
