  • Enter the magnificent Høyt Under Taket Climbing Centre in Norway! 🧗 The brief for this building was unique: to construct an indoor climbing centre entirely out of wood, starting from the concrete foundation. Inside, it would need to accommodate plenty of open space, both vertically and horizontally. 🌲⛰️ Architects at Snøhetta and structural engineers at Degree of Freedom were ready to tackle the mission! Thanks to a collaborative and open-minded design effort by a team passionate about both mass timber and creative solutions, Høyt Under Taket successfully met the project demands. 🤝 Another reason why the end product proved both eye-catching and fit for purpose was our Sylva™ CLT Rib Floors and Roofs. The concept of using frames to create a ‘cave feeling’ in the main hall influenced the ceiling design and, in most parts of the building, limited the spans to six metres. Prefabricated Sylva CLT Rib was a logical fit in two parts of the building where long spans and space considerations presented challenges. 👉 Take a look at the illustrations visualising the structure below and read more about this extraordinary building: https://lnkd.in/er6xY26d Photo 1: Eirik Evjen Photo 2: Snøhetta

  • Today, we at Stora Enso were delighted to showcase how our fossil-free and renewable products contribute to the green transition and a thriving rural landscape to Andreas Carlson and Peter Kullgren. We also discussed the importance of reliable infrastructure, such as the Karlstad triangle track, to strengthen Swedish bioeconomy and climate-smart logistics.

At Stora Enso, we believe that the bioeconomy is key to a sustainable and competitive Europe. This week, I had the privilege of speaking alongside Finland’s Minister of the Environment Sari Multala and the EU Commissioner for Environment Jessika Roswall at an event focused on accelerating Europe’s competitiveness and bioeconomy. In my remarks, I highlighted five key priorities – the 5 C’s – that can drive real impact: 1️⃣ 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀. The bioeconomy strengthens Europe’s industrial base, creating new industries, high-value jobs, and economic resilience. It’s a crucial driver for European competitiveness. 2️⃣ 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀. To achieve a truly circular economy, we need to ensure that renewable materials are collected and recycled. That’s why we support 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝟵𝟬% – because we cannot recycle what is not collected. 3️⃣ 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻. We must clearly differentiate 𝗯𝗶𝗼𝗴𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 from 𝗳𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 in legislation. Recognizing the renewable nature of bio-based materials is essential to creating a fair and effective regulatory framework. 4️⃣ 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀. Introducing 𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗶𝗼-𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 in relevant end products can help 𝗱𝗲-𝗳𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗘𝘂𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘂𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀. Countries like France are already setting inspiring examples through initiatives that promote the use of renewable materials like wood in public procurement. We need more of this across Europe! 5️⃣ 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮. 𝗥𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘀 𝗮 𝗸𝗲𝘆 𝘀𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗰𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗼𝗻, just as it is in the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation. Policies must reflect the value of bio-based solutions in reducing Europe’s reliance on fossil-intensive industries and imports. At Stora Enso, we are committed to making Europe a global leader in bio-based solutions. With the right policy measures, we can scale up the bioeconomy, drive industrial transformation, and accelerate the green transition. Let’s work together to make this happen! What do you think is the most crucial policy step to advance the bioeconomy? #Bioeconomy #CircularEconomy #GreenTransition #Sustainability #EUIndustry #StoraEnso

  • Celebrating and restoring history in South London: Walworth Town Hall has been a cornerstone of its community since 1894. 🏛️ However, the majestic building suffered significant fire damage in 2013, leaving it in very poor condition. Now, the historic landmark has been refurbished to its former glory. ✨ We’re happy to have been part of this sensitive re-modernisation project to restore the building. On behalf of Conamar, and the client General Projects, Stora Enso have supplied Sylva™ CLT Floors with preinstalled lifting slings to our partner B&K Structures, who have worked closely with Heyne Tillett Steel and Feix&Merlin Architects [FYKES & MERR-LIN] to carefully restore the original features of the Walworth Town Hall. 🔨🌳 The result is a community hub which is once again open to the public; a free-to-use, purpose-built community space that can host events, seminars and leisure activities curated by the local community, for the local community. 💚 👉 Read more:  https://lnkd.in/ezaQNaCP 📷 Photos: B&K Structures
