☀️ The sun is shining in Europe Our CEO for Europe, Duarte Bello, has been elected as a new member of the Board of Directors at the SolarPower Europe General Assembly for the next three years. SolarPower Europe is the leading association for the solar sector in Europe, representing over 300 members across the entire solar energy value chain. Duarte was nominated along with other industry leaders, including LEKANE Philippe, Francisco Beirão, Juan M. Fernandez, Dr. Karsten Schlageter, Susannah Wood and Alexander Zahariev. Together with the other members of the Board of Directors, they aim to elevate solar energy to new heights and continue the diligent work required to achieve a flexible, solar-driven energy transition.  The year 2024 was marked by the significant expansion of solar energy across the European energy landscape. For the first time, electricity production from solar energy in Europe surpassed that from coal. Solar energy is expected to play an increasingly vital role in the energy mix, with solar energy production in the EU increasing by 23% in 2023 and this growth is expected to continue. Every sunny day counts. At EDP, we are already making a difference with our experience, our assets in operation and those in the pipeline, and with the optimization and innovation we bring to every megawatt.

  • 🥂 10 anni di San Giovanni... e non finisce qui March marks a decade of excellence for the San Giovanni wind farm, a beacon of sustainable energy and community development in Italy. Here are ten notable facts, one for each year of success: 1️⃣  The wind farm boasts an installed capacity of 20 MW; 2️⃣ Over the last decade, San Giovanni has generated an impressive 497 GWh of clean energy; 3️⃣ This output was sufficient to power 190,000 families for a decade; 4️⃣ This project has helped avoid the emission of 240,000 tons of CO2, contributing to a greener planet; 5️⃣ Located in the beautiful province of Matera, Basilicata, the park extends over three municipalities: Salandra, Ferrandina and Garaguso;    6️⃣ The site of the park featured steep slopes and uneven terrain, which increased the complexity of the project's construction due to its difficult orography; 7️⃣ It was the fifth of its kind installed in the market, marking a significant milestone in our infrastructure development; 8️⃣ Each turbine stands at a hub height of 95 meters with a capacity of 2 MW; 9️⃣ This project marked the debut of the first Vestas V110 wind turbines in EDPR's fleet; 🔟 Our renewable energy initiatives through this project have significantly enhanced our impact on local communities and their energy needs. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the dedicated team whose relentless efforts have made the San Giovanni project successful. #EDPWeChooseEarth #EnergyTransition

🌬️ Proud to be among the "Top 10 Leaders in Wind Energy"! EDP Renewables in Poland is thrilled to announce our ranking as one of the top 10 wind farm owners in this market, securing the 5th position with an impressive installed capacity of 538 MW. Notably, we are just 259 MW behind the top spot, currently held by the PGE Group. This achievement highlights our pivotal role in advancing the transition to green energy and contributing to Poland’s energy independence and economic growth. In 2024, onshore wind turbines were responsible for producing approximately 47.5% of all green energy generated in Poland, underscoring the critical role of wind energy in the country’s energy mix. Wind energy is essential in addressing the climate crisis. When combined with other sustainable energy solutions, it significantly aids Europe in reducing its reliance on imported fossil fuels. We are steadfast in our belief that the energy transition is the path forward, and that innovation and collaboration are fundamental to progress. #EDPWeChooseEarth #EnergyTransition #WindEnergy

  • Wind, Sun, Hybridization and now 🥁... Storage We are delighted to share that we have secured two 160 MW battery storage contracts and are thus kicking off this technology in Poland. Awarded by the Polish grid operator during the recent capacity market auction, these projects highlight our commitment to technological advancement and innovation. They also emphasize our dedication to diversifying our energy mix, a crucial element in Europe's energy transition. This milestone is undoubtedly a significant step towards achieving decarbonization goals and ensuring a stable energy supply in Poland, where coal has historically been the predominant energy source. Battery storage systems are vital in this context as they mitigate the inherent intermittency of renewable energy sources. These systems enhance grid stability by storing excess energy during high production periods and releasing it during peak demand. Check out the infographic below for more details on the projects.

  • 👏 Major breakthroughs in UK energy projects We have commenced the construction of the Harrington Franklin project, our first stand-alone battery energy storage system (BESS) project in Europe! This significant milestone underscores our commitment to building a diverse, multi-technology portfolio that supports the energy transition across all markets we operate in. 📍 Located in Kent, England, the Harrington Franklin project will contribute a considerable capacity to the British grid, equivalent to 100 MWh of energy production. Expected to be operational by 2025, this project will enhance flexibility, and enable a more efficient use of renewable energy across the UK. 🔋 Stand-alone BESS play a vital role in addressing challenges like storing excess energy during peak production hours and maintaining a stable energy supply. These systems also drive decarbonization efforts and reduce energy costs, strengthening the resilience of the energy network. 🌍 This technology is undoubtedly a keystone of EDP's 2023-26 plan, which aims to add more than 500 MW of storage capacity worldwide.    #BatteryStorage
