In the Zero Emission Tokyo Strategy, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government aims to decarbonize 100% of its energy use by 2050 to achieve net zero CO2 emissions by using renewable energy as main energy sources and strengthen energy efficiency. To achieve this goal, a scenario for 100% renewable energy in Tokyo is examined, which corresponds to a sustainable economic recovery so called green recovery

The Nordic electricity system is facing significant challenges over the coming years. Firstly, we need to transition further towards renewable sources and retire all remaining fossil generators. Secondly, we need to ensure that the retirement of fossil (and possibly also nuclear) units will not lead to power shortages or frequency disturbances. Thirdly, we need to ensure that the best available technologies are deployed to solve the problem. Investments are needed. In Centrica, we are proud to be part of the solution with our investment in more than 100 MW of battery storage capacity in Sweden. With the improvements and harmonization of electricity markets, through Picasso joint procurement of aFRR, trilateral mFRR cooperation and improvements of intraday capacity allocation mechanisms, we are more than ready to play our part in ensuring that the transition happens smoothly with Centrica Energy's multi-market optimisation solution. It will mean that the Nordic electricity grid will be able to connect even more cheap and green energy and accelerate the retirement of the remaining fossil units. #energizingagreenerfairerfuture

Powering Up - Centrica energises Swedish battery deal 🔋🌎 Centrica Power has signed an agreement with Fu-Gen AG for up to nine battery energy storage projects in Sweden with a total capacity of over 100MW. The first projects are scheduled to come online in 2026. Battery storage projects like these help to maximise the use of renewable energy. All the batteries will be deployed in Sweden, but will help balance the grid across the wider Nordic electricity market. It forms part of our plans to materially increase investment over the coming years as part of our green-focused growth and investment strategy, helping to energise a greener, fairer future. "On the eve of synchronizations with the European electricity networks, Lithuania updates its National Energy Independence Strategy with a focus on secure, green, and affordable self-sufficiency. Cooperation with NREL, a leading U.S. institution, ensures optimal and science-based policy choices, transforming Lithuania into a resilient, energy exporting country," - Dainius Kreivys, Lithuanian Energy Minister Together with the Lietuvos Energetikos Agentūra / Lithuanian Energy Agency (LEA), NREL is spearheading the Lithuania 100% Renewable Energy Study (Lithuania 100), which examines policies for achieving 100% renewable energy integration, and how getting there might impact Lithuania’s grid operations, hydrogen systems, distribution networks, and beyond. "To balance the rapid transition of the Lithuanian energy system to 100% use of renewable energy resources, it is necessary to perform an analysis of the energy system. LEA's cooperation with NREL will create a data-based model that will offer political decision-making institutions the most favorable energy system transformation models," added LEA Director, Agnė Bagočiutė. The study’s initial findings suggest Lithuania is on track to meet its 2030 electricity demand through renewables, thanks to abundant renewable energy potential, flexible generation capacity, and robust interconnections with neighboring EU countries.
