A ko-authored publication on #Indigenous #Sovereignty with Juliana Birnbaum from Project Regeneration. 🌎 The design process has been vast and broad, bringing critical discourse on Indigenous Sovereignty, education materials, identifying bad actors, Indigenous-led solutions, Indigenous-owned businesses, and many more resources. 🏛️ Call to action: "Advocate for the recognition, respect, and enfranchisement of Indigenous Peoples via direct agreements ensuring formal stewardship of their nations' ancestral territories, as crucial to effective climate action." The publication's resources and discussions offer practical applications of Indigenous sovereignty, land back, land bank rematriation, and IDGov in nature-based solutions, nature tech, climate solutions, bio-economy models, and nature/climate finance. They extend beyond framings and language such as "from Indigenous Perspectives" in these and other areas. Dialogues are happening at #Davos's annual World Economic Forum (WEF). One challenge discussed is that more than half of the world’s GDP is “moderately or highly dependent on #nature.” At the same time, 52% of agricultural land is already “moderately or severely” degraded. There is growing momentum behind #integrated nature and climate action by governments, businesses, and investors; however, the question of delivering at scale remains." To our (Indigenous Peoples, at least in South America) surprise, Indigenous data sovereignty (#IDSov), and Indigenous #representation in the upcoming activities of phases 2 and 3 are #not outlined—the recent peer-reviewed article by Jennings et al. "Governance of Indigenous data in open earth systems science" provides vital Indigenous perspectives and recommendations. 📜 Paper in the comments. Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities steward and custodian key biodiversity areas; thus, Indigenous rights to data and rights to nature (#RoN) must be central to the Earth Observation Initiative and its commercialization. 💲 🌄 🌎 🌊 Earth observation data may be the "new" music in business and scalability in nature and climate action; #context is its conductor, its remaining sacred, its symphony. 🌍Reflections on the Nexus of Ancestral Intelligence and AI Last month, we had the honor of presenting at the COP16 UN Biodiversity Summit in Cali, Colombia, where ism and Hermetic co-hosted a transformative event focused on bridging Ancestral Wisdom and Artificial Intelligence for sustainable futures. This gathering was more than just a workshop; it was a call to action—a space where voices from Indigenous communities, tech innovators, and environmental leaders came together to discuss ethical technology integration, data sovereignty, and the equitable funding of conservation efforts. Key Takeaways: Ancestral Knowledge Meets AI: Indigenous wisdom provides a blueprint for sustainability, and AI must serve as a tool that respects and amplifies these insights, rather than overwriting them. Ethics in Innovation: Technology must prioritize Indigenous autonomy, ensuring communities retain control over their lands, cultures, and data. Equitable Financial Models: Conservation efforts must fairly compensate the stewards of natural ecosystems, shifting resources to those who preserve biodiversity. Regenerative Futures: By intertwining ancient wisdom with modern tools, we can design a world that values collaboration, resilience, and cultural integrity. A far more interesting question is "How can academic research contribute to Indigenous knowledge - ways of knowing that are always evolving?" There now are more and more Indigenous knowledge holders who also are trained in academic methods. Many are finding novel ways of combining traditional and academic ways of knowing that are still uniquely Indigenous (for example Nkwi Flores Keolu Fox, Ph.D., Cliff Kapono, Darren Ranco, Teina Rongo, Antony Vavia, Yolanda López-Maldonado ). They are providing powerful leadership to ensure that Indigenous knowledge is not simply the old ways (implied by saying 'traditional knowledge') but the new ways embraced by Indigenous futurists and others who are leading their Indigenous communities by walking backwards into the future. By putting Indigenous leaders and knowledge holders at the forefront of our work, and supporting them, that is exactly what we do at Moonjelly Foundation and the#OceanKnowledgeActionNetwork.

Why AI? What is AI’s BioKreaTure (#ego and #ism)? Does AI function in the Indigenous Sovereign context, and how or is it “Indigenous-washing”? What does AI have to do with nature, or is it greenwashing?

This project, Pada Kera, is an Embera Chami land buyback that trials the novel legal mechanism in Colombia. It's designed to get displaced Indigenous groups back into healthy situations fast. Or protect or expand the borders of their protected land. But it also strengthens #IndigenousPeoples rights within Rights of Nature law, most Indigenous groups are totally on board with the restrictions (no clearcutting or reselling) but donors feel more secure about it, and it strengthens Rights of Nature law as well internationally.
