A recent survey from the FAIR-IMPACT EU Project explores the challenges and needs of discipline-specific #FAIR metrics in the social sciences. The answers reflect a need for a bottom-up, collaborative approach to developing these metrics. Check out the full results and insights from the survey below! #FAIR #SocialSciences #ResearchData #Metrics #HPC #DataManagement
🔍 𝗙𝗔𝗜𝗥 𝗘𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵? 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲-𝗦𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗠𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘀 As part of the FAIR-IMPACT EU Project, we've been exploring discipline-specific metrics for the Social Sciences to enable more precise #FAIR evaluations using the F-uji tool. While the #FAIRprinciples (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) provide a broad framework, tailored metrics help ensure #datasets meet discipline-specific standards. 📊 Our recent survey gathered insights from 29 professionals across IT, data management, and research, uncovering key challenges and opportunities: ✅ 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗲𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗙𝗔𝗜𝗥 𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗲𝘀—73.1% apply them in their work. ✅ 𝗟𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗲-𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰 𝗙𝗔𝗜𝗥 𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘀—only 36.4% had encountered them. ✅ 𝗔 𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗯𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗼𝗺-𝘂𝗽 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁—led by researchers and support staff rather than mandates. ✅ 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘁𝘀—lack of time (61.9%), funding (38.1%), and skills (33.3%) hinder adoption. 📢 The findings reveal a strong interest in discipline-specific #FAIRmetrics but also highlight the need for more support and collaboration.
