The Mina Doade project is now part of the #CRMA! 🚀 Back in 2023, we had the opportunity to collaborate with GRUPO SAMCA on a CORE project, applying hyperspectral characterization to their LCT pegmatite drill cores from the Doade mine in Spain. Through our analysis, we successfully mapped the distribution and relative quantification of key Li-bearing minerals—spodumene, petalite, and cookeite. We can’t wait to see how the project unfolds and are proud to have contributed our expertise to this exciting development! Mining tech raised $5.6B. Why does it feel small? Because in Silicon Valley, that’s an afterthought. For an industry that literally fuels the world you’d expect investors to be lining up. Instead, mining tech startups are grinding uphill, trapped between capital-intensive development and a customer base notorious for its slow adoption. Why? 1️⃣ Not on the VC radar Mining tech doesn’t fit the Silicon Valley growth script. Investors want 3-5x returns in 2-4 years, but mining startups deal with long sales cycles, capital-heavy deployments, and an industry that isn’t exactly throwing money at innovation. The result? VCs look elsewhere, and founders have to bootstrap longer or turn to industry-backed funds. 2️⃣ Mining’s reluctance to adopt AI, IoT, robotics—every other industry is scaling these fast. In mining? Legacy systems and risk aversion slow everything down. You can't just prove that the tech works — you have to show that it won’t disrupt operations, break workflows, or introduce unforeseen risks. That’s a tall order in an industry where production delays cost millions per day. 3️⃣ Resistance to change The phrase “We’ve always done it this way” might as well be a mining slogan. Even when startups offer clear productivity gains, lower costs, or sustainability improvements, the industry still hesitates. Why? Because changing infrastructure, retraining staff, and reworking processes feel riskier than doing nothing. 4️⃣ Funding constraints Hardware + long sales cycles = cash flow hell. Mining startups need serious upfront capital, but high-risk, slow-return industries aren’t VC-friendly. Finding the right investor in mining tech is about patience, domain knowledge, and a willingness to bet on deep tech, not quick flips. So what’s next? The $5.6B raised is a positive signal.
