Over the next 6 weeks, we’re rolling out the red carpet for the masterminds behind 30+ game-changing startups selected for STARTUP AUTOBAHN powered by Plug and Play expo2025 on June 5 in Stuttgart. 🎤 First up: Ted McKlveen, Co-Founder & CEO at Verne. 🚛 Ted McKlveen grew up in snowy Minnesota, studied chemistry at Harvard University, earned an MBA from Stanford University Graduate School of Business, and gained experience in both clean tech startups and Fortune 500 companies. It was during an energy seminar at Stanford that he identified a gap in the hydrogen value chain — with plenty of focus on production and usage, but no solutions for storage and transportation. This insight led to the founding of Verne in 2020, with Ted and two co-founders — David Jaramillo and Bav Roy. Today, the startup has grown to 20 employees. Verne’s mission is to replace diesel across various industries with a cleaner, emission-free fuel that doesn’t compromise on performance. Even if it wasn’t for Verne, Ted would have still pursued a startup focused on decarbonization: “It aligns with my overall theory of change: If you don’t offer something equal to or better than what’s already out there, it won’t be adopted. We can’t rely on subsidies or regulations to make it happen.” The team has a history with Plug and Play Tech Center — one of the co-founders pitched at a Plug and Play Mobility event, resulting in valuable connections and follow-up from investors. “I truly love the startup world and the challenge of getting something off the ground. Plug and Play Tech Center has been ranked as one of the Top 5 most active VCs in Europe for 2024 by Sifted! 🚀 According to Sifted, the top 10 VCs backed a whopping 713 startups last year, each participating in at least 40 deals. Out of the top 100, a total of 2,155 startups were supported. And guess what?
