🌏 Advancing the Transition to Low Carbon Buildings in Asia 🏢 Buildings are major contributors to greenhouse gas emissions, representing almost 40% of global energy-associated carbon emissions. By 2060, the global building floor area is projected to double, driving higher energy consumption and greater demand for cooling. In Asia, this growing demand poses a major challenge as cities expand. Governments are working to adopt more climate-friendly designs and sustainable materials. However, enforcement of building energy efficiency regulations has not been significant due to several barriers, including limited understanding among subnational authorities, insufficient awareness among industry professionals, and inadequate financing and incentives. The Asia Low Carbon Buildings Transition (ALCBT) Project, supported by the #IKI, addresses these challenges by catalysing a nationwide transition towards low carbon buildings in Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Thailand, and Vietnam, through ▶️ Standardising tools and systems for managing carbon emissions ▶️ Supporting policies for achieving carbon-neutrality by 2050 ▶️ Enhancing capacity for low carbon buildings Find out more about the latest outcomes of this IKI project 👇 https://lnkd.in/e9gkPdCD #IKItopics #EnergyEfficiency #Renewables #JustEnergyTransition Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz, Global Green Growth Institute, ASEAN Centre for Energy, Energy Efficiency Services Limited, HEAT GmbH

Take a look at this new economic analysis by the OECD - OCDE and UNDP, presented today at the Petersberg Climate Dialogue at the Auswärtiges Amt (Federal Foreign Office) Germany. The report was supported by an #IKI project. #PCD2025 Click here for more details on how the IKI supports the development of ambitious #NDCs and long-term strategies ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eSfCAUyv The full OECD-UNDP report will be published in late spring. Read the key messages below 👇
Investing in climate goes hand in hand with economic growth and development. New economic analysis by the OECD - OCDE and UNDP, presented today at the 2025 Petersberg Climate Dialogue, provides clear evidence that stronger climate targets are not only achievable, they also make economic sense. What are the key messages? Status quo ➡️ Climate action has accelerated and is delivering results. Clean energy markets have expanded exponentially over the past decade, driven first by policies and now by self-interest. ➡️ Thanks to strong policies, around 40 countries have decoupled emissions from economic growth, providing evidence that reducing greenhouse gas emissions does not necessarily come at the expense of GDP. ➡️ The 2025 Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) cycle is an opportunity to align growth, development and climate action. If designed and implemented effectively, #NDCs can attract investment, create jobs, and build economic resilience. NDCs & economic growth ➡️ Enhanced NDCs and economic growth go hand in hand, both in the short and long term. ➡️ Stronger climate policies will not hamper growth and in fact will provide a net economic gain. Under an Enhanced NDCs scenario, global GDP in 2040 would be 0.2% higher than under the Current Policies scenario. This is the equivalent of adding Sweden to the global economy. ➡️ In the longer run, the economic case for climate ambition becomes even stronger when considering avoided climate damages. An Enhanced NDCs scenario could increase global GDP by up to 3% by 2050 and up to 13% by 2100 by reducing climate-related damages compared to the Current Policies scenario. NDCs & development benefits ➡️ Climate action also delivers far-reaching development benefits beyond GDP growth. ➡️ By 2050, integrating investments in the energy transition with governance, social protection and digital infrastructure could lift an additional 175 million people out of extreme poverty while strengthening resilience and energy equity. How to make it happen? ➡️ Build high-level political ownership and cross-government coordination. ➡️ Align NDCs with national development priorities to maximise impact. ➡️ Engage the private sector early to unlock investment opportunities. ➡️ Strengthen international and national financial institutions by equipping them with the tools, incentives, and expertise to finance NDC implementation. ➡️ Place affected stakeholders at the core of climate strategies to ensure a just and equitable transition. 🔗 https://lnkd.in/etXRsnnK Watch this space — The full OECD-UNDP report will be published in late spring. 🌳 Celebrating International Day of Forests: Preserving and Restoring Forests for Climate and Food Security 🌍 Today, on the International Day of Forests, we reflect on the vital role forests play in sustaining life on Earth. This year's theme, "Forests and Food," underscores the intrinsic link between healthy forests, food security, and climate resilience. Forests are indispensable, providing not only essential raw materials but also serving as a source of nutrition and income for billions globally. They act as natural carbon sinks, absorbing carbon dioxide and thereby mitigating climate change. However, deforestation and forest degradation threaten these critical functions, leading to biodiversity loss and the disruption of ecosystem services. IKI's Commitment to Forest Conservation The International Climate Initiative #IKI is dedicated to addressing these challenges through various projects aimed at preserving and restoring forests worldwide. By promoting sustainable land use practices and supporting reforestation efforts, IKI contributes to both climate mitigation and the enhancement of food security for communities that rely on forest resources. Join Us in Making a Difference! On this #ForestDay, we invite you to learn more about our initiatives and explore how collective action can lead to a sustainable future.
