Waters in Balance - next generation lake, river and estuary monitoring and solar energy passion

🌍 English Summary: ESA Climate Initiative on Methane, Wetlands & Climate Change A recent study by the ESA Climate Initiative reveals that atmospheric methane levels hit record highs in 2020/21, despite lower human-made emissions. A major factor: flooded wetlands releasing more methane. Methane is 80 times more potent than CO₂ in the short term, and increased emissions from natural sources could accelerate climate feedback loops. However, the intricate relationships between water cycles, methane emissions, and climate variability remain poorly understood. The Path Forward: Understand, Measure, Develop Solutions To influence these processes long-term, we first need a deeper understanding of the interactions between water, ecosystems, and greenhouse gases. Only through precise monitoring with satellites, AI, and IoT sensors can we systematically identify methane sources and quantify their impact. With this knowledge, targeted measures can be developed, evaluated, and refined – whether through sustainable wetland management, adaptation strategies, or the protection of natural carbon sinks. A data-driven approach is key to creating long-term solutions for a stable climate system. 📢 Better understanding of water enables targeted climate action. https://lnkd.in/eGGssecH

Waters in Balance - next generation lake, river and estuary monitoring and solar energy passion

Thank you to European Space Agency - ESA, Lisa Burke Nick Appleyard and Josef Aschbacher for hosting this incredible gathering of water and sustainability projects in Oxford and at the Harwell Campus—home to some of the most exciting innovations in Europe’s space economy! 🌍🚀💧 It was an honor to present the highlights of our year: ✨ SWIM and its follow-on project, SWIM Extensions (EX). ✨ Our milestone achievement: Europe’s largest water quality monitoring project on track, spanning the stunning Mecklenburgische Seenplatte and the Baltic Coast. During my trip, I walked along the flooded Thames, a stark reminder of the growing challenges of water management in a changing climate. This underlines the critical role of space-based water monitoring systems in providing a global perspective—and equally, the need for reliable ground truthing systems like WAMO to ensure actionable insights on the surface level. Bridging these two worlds—space and surface water—remains at the heart of what we do. Grateful to contribute to the preservation of Europe’s natural wonders and help communities build resilience. 🌿🌊 Special thanks for the organization, great work and inspiring conversations: Ana Raposo Liz Barrow Davide Coppola Dr. Carmen Köhler Cheryl Hicks Eva Maria Haas Maria G. Waters in Balance - next generation lake, river and estuary monitoring and solar energy passion

I couldn’t be happier or prouder right now. Three months of nonstop work with the best team imaginable—Maria, Molka, Ankita, Iris, Juliana, Simon, Jeet, Ashutosh, Sven, Jens, and Fabian. We’ve finally reached the milestone: delivery, testing, and acceptance of our systems! This month, we delivered a total of 20 next-generation WAMO 220 systems to Landkreis Mecklenburgische Seenplatte Landkreis Vorpommern-Greifswald and their IT support at IKT-Ost AöR and 26 meer.zukunft.seen. Thank you for your vision, commitment, and unwavering support. Special thanks to our partners at Badger Meter and klion GmbH for making this possible with us. The first systems are already up and running, delivering continuous water quality monitoring. As autumn sets in, we’ll be testing under harsher conditions to prepare the fleet for the next bathing season and provide valuable data for limnology research at Tollensesee and Reitbahnsee. By spring, our fleet will be covering an area more than three times the size of Saarland! The next big project is already underway, bringing even more value to our customers, community, and partners: SWIM. Thank you all for helping us bring next-generation water monitoring to the mainstream. 🐳 Now, I’m off for holidays and reflect on our learnings. 🏖️🤿🐠 #changemaker #waterislife

𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝗧𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀: 1. Technical skills are just one part of the puzzle. Patience and perseverance matter just as much. 2. Problem-solving isn't about having all the answers but being flexible and resourceful when things don't go as planned. 3. Team collaboration was key—we couldn’t have made it without everyone's input and dedication. 𝐖𝐀𝐌𝐎 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐞: 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐎𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 I’ve learned that no matter how straightforward things might seem in theory, practice is where the real challenges lie. From setting up the sensors to ensuring the system functions in the unpredictable conditions of the field, each step came with its own hurdles. But with every obstacle, I gained new insights into problem-solving and adapting to real-world complexities. We at e.Ray Europa GmbH completed the installation of our water quality measurement platform (WAMO), which is designed to collect data for monitoring harmful algal blooms (HABs) in lakes.    I feel incredibly grateful for the hands-on learning experience this project offered. The data this station will gather is critical for understanding and managing freshwater ecosystems, and I’m proud to be part of something that contributes to environmental protection.   #LearningByDoing #WaterQualityMonitoring #HABs #ProblemSolving #TeamWork #GrowthMindset #EnvironmentalData
