Bringing expertise to the Energy Transition: Matt Boyer – General Manager at DMT in Australia   Meet Matt, who gained professional accreditation as a Chartered Civil Engineer and has since transitioned into business development, where his technical expertise and strategic vision align with his passion for driving the energy transition and integrating sustainability into business. Matt told us more about that in an interview.   How long have you been with DMT and what are your responsibilities? I’ve been with DMT GROUP for about twelve months now, serving as the General Manager of DMT Consulting Engineers, the Australian subsidiary. My responsibilities span operational and administrative functions as I work to establish the local business. In addition to developing the business structure, I am focusing on building a pipeline of prospects. My efforts include connecting the broader capabilities of our German business unit and other international subsidiaries with Australian projects.   What brought you to DMT? My passion for the energy transition and the critical role Australia plays in global net-zero emissions drew me to DMT. Australia, as a key exporter of energy and resources, is uniquely positioned to contribute to the development of renewable energy and the critical mineral supply chain. I am deeply committed to the opportunity to bring DMT's cutting-edge solutions, such as ground freezing and mine access design, to the Australian industry.   What do you particularly appreciate about working at DMT? I’ve been incredibly impressed by the depth of technical expertise and the innovative spirit. Working with colleagues in Germany and across our international subsidiaries, I see how well-equipped we are to support the growing demand for sustainable energy solutions and critical resource development in Australia. I particularly value the collaboration across our global teams, which allows us to deliver high-end technical solutions to local challenges.   What are the best stories or projects that you have experienced so far? I have been involved in a greenfield mine access project in Europe, and I’ve been fascinated by the advanced geotechnical exploration techniques used in deep rock settings. This has been a great opportunity to familiarize myself with deep investigation methods commonly employed by my mining geotechnical colleagues, which contrast sharply with the near-surface techniques more prevalent in civil works in Australia. DMT's 3D Borehole Radar: Advancing subsurface exploration - from hydrogen cavern storage to the world's largest potash mine in Canada   DMT's 3D Borehole Radar has proven itself as a versatile and reliable tool in subsurface exploration all around the world - with applications ranging from hydrogen cavern storage to mining operations and geological surveys. Our 3D Borehole Radar provides critical insights into underground structures, ensuring safe and efficient operations. Our recent project at the Rocanville potash mine in Canada showcases the 3D Borehole Radar's capabilities. Faced with the challenge of adapting our European-tested technology to Canadian safety standards and logistical constraints, our team successfully modified the borehole probes to meet these requirements. The project involved the deployment of direction-sensitive probes 250 meters deep into the evaporitic sequences, using advanced sensors to capture detailed data every 50 centimeters. These data were then processed into a comprehensive 3D model, to delineate discrete horizons in the evaporitic sequence and which will provide guidance for future safe and economical extraction. Dr. Dirk Orlowsky, Senior Project Manager, emphasizes the significance: "Our measurements in Canada aimed to deliver a comprehensive underground model, essential for determining where further extraction is both safe and economically viable." Originally developed for salt dome exploration, our 3D Borehole Radar is now a global tool for constructing and surveying cavern storage facilities. Five days full of energizing ideas and innovations at HANNOVER MESSE What a ride! We enjoyed talking about all topics, gaining new insights and building new networks within an international audience of experts in Hannover. One of the highlights this week was Lukas Förster's presentation on "Sustainability in resource extraction: A case study on Madagascar and Inner Mongolia." This focused on DMT's site assessments in these regions, emphasizing the implementation of responsible sourcing for OEMs with reference to German supply chain act. Jens Schweitzer presented DMT's newest innovation on monitoring the condition of amusement park rides DMT RideGuard. It was great to be part of TÜV NORD GROUP's team at the Hannover Messe, presenting key topics such as energy efficiency and sustainability in plant planning and construction, heat generation, decarbonisation with deep geothermal energy, and responsible critical raw materials for clean tech to shape the future with technology. AI Coaster: DMT RideGuard online monitoring system is drawing crowds at HANNOVER MESSE 2025 DMT's newest development in #monitoring technology is on display here at TÜV NORD GROUP's booth at HANNOVER MESSE. Jens Schweitzer, Head of Industrial Monitoring at DMT GROUP, demonstrates how the online monitoring system works. A highlight on the stand is our roller coaster model, which demonstrates on a small scale how DMT RideGuard monitors rides in real time and issues alarms in the event of a change in ride characteristics. Visitors to the stand are particularly fascinated by how #AI is used to analyse data quickly and accurately. Using state-of-the-art IoT sensors and AI algorithms, DMT RideGuard constantly analyses and evaluates vibrations, shocks and movements on attractions in real time. It thus provides an additional efficient tool to everyday operations, directly while the ride is in operation. DMT RideGuard monitors seamlessly, directly, and reliably for the very first time.
