🌳 International Day of Forests 2025: Forests and Food 🌳 Today, on International Day of Forests, we celebrate and raise awareness about the essential role forests play in our world. This year’s theme, “Forests and Food”, highlights the critical relationship between forests, food systems, and sustainability. 🌍The ABCs of Forests according to UN Environment Programme: A - Adapt: Food systems must work with, not against, forests. Unsustainable agriculture expansion threatens biodiversity and climate stability. Sustainable, forest-positive farming practices are key. B - Balance: Forests provide vital ecosystem services, culture, and livelihoods. Yet, Indigenous Peoples and local communities are often excluded. Equitable benefit-sharing can empower them as stewards of our forests. C - Change: We must change policies to prioritize forests in climate action. With COP30 being held in Belém, Brazil, we have a unique opportunity to drive ambition and commitments for forests in national climate plans. At the Watch and Jewellery Initiative 2030, our Pillar 2 on Nature addresses these challenges. We’ve worked on creating tools to support our members in taking action: The Nature Roadmap, launched at the JCK Las Vegas Sustainability Summit in May 2024, provides a strategic framework for integrating nature considerations into business practices. Developed with expert feedback from organizations like WWF, WEF, IUCN, and WBCSD, this roadmap is a key guide for aligning business operations with nature-positive goals. The Nature Action Playbook offers step-by-step guidance on advancing progress on the 20 priority actions, and it’s designed to help companies assess their value chains and implement effective actions to create their Nature Roadmap. Additionally, our Digital Action Framework, powered by ESG Book, enables real-time tracking of sustainability progress through a dynamic disclosure platform, making it easier for our companies—large and small—to drive measurable impact across our 3 pillars on climate, nature, and inclusiveness. On this International Day of Forests, let’s reflect on the importance of forests for both our planet and food systems. As we recognize International Women’s Day tomorrow, it’s crucial to reflect not only on the progress we’ve made but also on the urgent work that lies ahead in closing the gender gap. Achieving gender equality must be more than a goal—it must become a reality, both in the watch & jewellery industry and across all sectors. The World Economic Forum's Global Gender Gap Report underscores this need for urgency. Despite significant advancements, the gender gap remains alarmingly wide. Here’s the stark reality: at the current rate, it will take 134 years to close the gap completely. While these figures are sobering, it’s important to recognize that we’ve already closed 68.1% of the gender gap. Through the tireless efforts of women leaders and men supporting equality, we have the power to accelerate this progress and create lasting change. At WJI 2030, we are committed to support our members to take clear, actionable steps toward gender equality. By signing the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) as a membership requirement, companies make a bold commitment that needs to be translated into action. Thanks to our partnership with UN Women, over 70% of our members have committed to these principles, and are actively engaging to activate their commitment and accelerate it. We need to work collectively to turn ambition into action which requires education, transparency, accountability and to deliver measurable impact. The time to act is now. #IWD2025 #GenderEquality #Empowerment #GlobalGenderGap

As we are approaching International Women’s Day, we are reminded that the gender agenda isn’t just a moral imperative—it’s a business one. That’s why as part of our membership; we require all enterprises to commit to the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs). Last year’s Deloitte study confirms what many of us have long known: women play a critical role in driving the future of the watch industry. 👉 Women’s Watch Consumption is Rising: The female consumer base is expanding, reflecting broader trends in luxury. Women are a dominant force across multiple sectors, and their purchasing power is growing year after year. 👉 Traditional Watches Must Adapt: Over 50% of women surveyed now either wear a smartwatch exclusively or alternate between smart and traditional watches. The demand for traditional timepieces is evolving, requiring brands to rethink their approach to design, innovation, and marketing. 👉 Price, Design & Brand Image Matter Most: Across all generations, women prioritize price-to-value, aesthetics, and brand identity when purchasing a watch. While men share price sensitivity, women tend to be less inclined to pay premium prices—though the mid-range segment is seeing growth. 👉 A Call for More Inclusive Marketing: The study highlights a critical shift: gendered watch categorization is outdated. Consumers want to see watches represented in diverse ways, with inclusive marketing imagery and product positioning that resonates beyond traditional labels. This report reminds us that if we are to remain relevant, gender equality must be at the center of strategy, innovation, and leadership. #InternationalWomensDay #WomenInWatches #FosteringInclusiveness #Leadership

🌍 Celebrating World Wildlife Day🌿 Imagine a world without elephants, tigers, trees, or coral reefs. Wildlife loss impacts not just nature but also the people and economies that depend on it. As we mark United Nations World Wildlife Day (WWD) on 3 March, let’s reflect on the vital role wild animals and plants play in our world. This year’s WWD2025 Theme focuses on Wildlife Conservation Finance: Investing in People and Planet—celebrating innovative financial solutions that support conservation and foster a future where wild species and humans can thrive together. At the heart of the Watch & Jewellery Initiative 2030, our second pillar focuses on Preserving Resources. This principle addresses the very core of our industry’s connection with the natural world, encompassing everything from metal mining and pearl cultivation to the sourcing of leather. How nature is critical for businesses—particularly in the watch & jewellery industry? Here are some key insights: 🔹 Over 50% of global GDP is moderately or highly dependent on nature (WEF 2020 Report). In fact, the remaining 50% of global GDP also relies on nature, though to a lesser degree and in more indirect ways. 🔹 The mining and metals industry, a key supplier to the watch and jewellery industry, has significant dependencies on nature through its supply chains. In our industry, we rely on precious metals, gemstones, and leathers—natural materials that are increasingly at risk due to biodiversity decline and ecosystem degradation. For example: 🌱 Climate change, such as altered rainfall patterns, can affect mining areas, making water less available and mining more expensive. 🐊 Exotic leathers, like those from alligators, are often produced in coastal regions near wetlands. Climate change leads to warmer seas, more storms, and rising sea levels, which all can disrupt exotic leather production in the coastal areas. 🌳 Deforestation from mining and agriculture can cause soil erosion, impacting the stability of mining operations and threatening the resources we rely on. Soil biodiversity also contributes to soil stability and fertility, which is crucial for open-pit mining. By increasing traceability, enhancing recyclability, and working with suppliers to improve biodiversity management, we can mitigate these risks while fostering a resilient future. Let’s celebrate innovative solutions that protect both people and planet. Together, we can create a thriving future for both wildlife and the industries that depend on them.
