Our Interim Executive Director John Hall & Head of North American Development Elyssa Jenkins-Pérez attended a number of exciting and thought-provoking events in the US last month, proudly representing our organisation across key moments in the jewellery industry calendar. > The Plumb Club Symposium Elyssa and John attending The Plumb Club Association, Inc. Symposium in New York. The discussions were insightful, covering transparent conversations between suppliers and retailers, the role of AI in the jewellery industry, and more. > JVC Annual Luncheon Our team joined fellow industry members at the Jewelers Vigilance Committee annual luncheon, an essential networking event where JVC members connect over cocktails and lunch to celebrate achievements and announce new initiatives that support the industry's continued success. > Gem Awards Elyssa and John attended the #GemAwards in New York, an event recognising outstanding achievement across the jewellery, watch, and media sectors. > JSA luncheon JSA fulfils its mission of informing and alerting jewelers about crime through weekly email crime alerts and research reports, a website, seminars and consulting activities. JSA also works closely with the FBI and local law enforcement agencies, sharing its data and analysis in order to further the war on jewellery crime. > 24 Karat Gala Dinner Elyssa and John represented our organisation at the prestigious 24 Karat Gala Dinner, an elegant evening celebrating excellence within the jewellery community. > Breakfast at Tiffany’s – Responsible Sourcing Focus Elyssa also joined key professionals for a “Breakfast at Tiffany’s” event with an important focus on responsible sourcing and sustainability in the jewellery supply chain. > Women Rise for All: Turning Hope into Action Elyssa participated in “Women Rise for All”, an initiative led by United Nations Deputy Secretary-General Amina J. Mohammed. It brings together women leaders to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through collaboration, impact, and inclusive leadership. A dazzling discovery. RJC member, Rio Tinto, has unearthed one of the largest yellow diamonds ever found in Canada. ‘The 158.20 carat rough diamond was discovered at Diavik located 200km south of the Arctic Circle in the remote Northwest Territories of Canada. It is one of only five yellow diamonds weighing more than 100 carats ever unearthed at Diavik in its 22-year history. Our Head of Asian Development, Kinjal Shah, proudly represented the Responsible Jewellery Council at the 8th India Gold Policy Centre (IGPC), IIM Ahmedabad – Annual Gold and Gold Market Conference 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, Delhi. As a panelist, Kinjal engaged in thought-provoking discussions on the future of India's gold industry. Organized by IGPC-IIMA, India's leading gold policy think tank, the conference served as a key platform for shaping responsible gold policies. As we celebrate 20 years as an organisation, we recognise that advancing gender equality is not only the right thing to do, it is essential to building a more innovative, resilient, and sustainable sector. This work also directly contributes to Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality), and we remain committed to driving meaningful progress. Globally, closing the gender gap by 2030 will require an investment of $360 billion annually, but the cost of inaction is even greater (UN Women). Women continue to be underrepresented in key decision-making roles, holding just 29.0% of management positions with a revenue-generating function, which are often critical pathways to the C-suite (S&P Global). These figures underscore the urgent need for structural change and sustained commitment. Over the years, we have supported our members with practical tools such as our Gender Equality Toolkit. As part of our commitment, we signed the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs), reinforcing our dedication to promoting gender equality and empowering women across the workplace, marketplace, and community. 💎 We had the pleasure of attending a panel event at Canada House in London, hosted by the Natural Diamond Council, in collaboration with the High Commission of Canada in the UK, and the Government of the Northwest Territories. ‘Diamonds, A Canadian Love Story’ explored the beauty of Canadian diamonds and how mines work closely with indigenous communities to respect local cultures, wildlife, and land. It was an insightful discussion featuring NDC's Global Ambassador and Emmy-Nominated Actress, Lily James; Councillor for the community of Dettah – Yellowknives Dene First Nation, Kateri Rose Lynn; Managing Director of Boodles, Jody Wainwright; and Paul Gruner, MBA, CPA, ICD.D, CEO of Tlicho Investment Corporation. We also had the chance to network and admire a stunning exhibition celebrating Canadian diamonds.
