The ocean is at the heart of our planet’s future—regulating our climate, driving economies and offering transformative solutions to global challenges. Yet, this immense potential remains vastly underappreciated and underfunded. To unlock the ocean's potential, we must move beyond incremental change. Implementing scalable solutions demands radical collaboration and disruptive innovation. 1000 Ocean Startups is a global coalition designed to harness this collective power. By fostering collaboration and mobilizing investment, we aim to catalyze 1,000 transformative start-ups by 2030—pioneering solutions across various industry sectors that drive the transition to a regenerative blue economy. At this year’s Annual Gathering, we brought together innovators, investors and ecosystem builders to explore the role of collaboration in advancing ocean innovation. Under the theme The Ocean Nexus, we highlighted the connection between ocean solutions and pressing global challenges like climate change, food security and energy transitions—charting a path forward to scale impactful solutions. The time to act is now. Collaboration isn’t just beneficial, it’s necessary. By working together, we can de-risk investment, scale impactful solutions and create a sustainable future for both people and planet. 🗞️ The #BlueEconomy is surging, but it's still undercapitalized. Dive into new research from 1000 Ocean Startups member Investable Oceans, in collaboration with ARPA-E, exploring how climate tech investors are increasingly recognizing the ocean’s massive role in energy, food, and infrastructure. Despite this trend, blue ventures only receive 7% of climate tech funding and face an estimated $175 Billion annual financing gap. Learn more about how crossover investing into the blue economy by climate tech funds can help close this gap in the article, featuring insights from Propeller’s Steven Fox and Katapult Ocean’s Ross Brooks — two of Sea Forward’s investees.

🌊 How are geopolitics & consumer trends reshaping the seafood industry? ICYMI, a recent episode of the IntraFish Media podcast explores how the Trump Administration’s policies are sending ripples through the US seafood sector in 3️⃣ key ways 🔹 Tariff Uncertainty: With the U.S. threatening new seafood tariffs, Canadian suppliers are pivoting toward European and Chinese markets to hedge against potential disruptions. 🔹 Potential NOAA Fisheries budget cuts: Concerns are rising over potential funding reductions that could impact critical fisheries science and sustainability efforts. 🔹 Consumer Backlash: Some retailers are facing boycotts for rolling back DEI policies, shifting consumer loyalty to companies that maintain these commitments. For seafood companies, these developments highlight the urgent need to diversify markets, navigate geopolitical risks and respond to shifting consumer values. 💡 🎧Listen to the podcast here: https://lnkd.in/gMaXkumX #SeafoodIndustry #TradePolicy #Sustainability #ConsumerTrends #NOAA #IntraFishMedia

🎉 🎊 BIG celebrations are in order! On Thursday, March 6th, SeaAhead and the New England Aquarium hosted our fifth BlueSwell Demo Day to honor the seven startups that participated in Cohort V. We were proud to welcome Ashley Stolba, the Undersecretary of Economic Foundations at the Executive Office of Economic Development, as our Guest Speaker. She gave a passionate welcome to our community and showed her commitment to driving Massachusetts forward as an innovation stronghold. We also heard remarks from Letise LaFeir, PhD, Chief of Conservation and Stewardship at the Aquarium who underlined how crucial novel technologies are to conservation efforts. Our very own Alissa Peterson, CEO and co-founder of SeaAhead, made it clear that supporting and investing in groundbreaking blue innovation is the key to a bright blue future for all. If you follow the BlueSwell Program, you know that Demo Day is the capstone event for our cohort members where they pitch directly to our community of investors and partners.
