We support women’s economic security through employment training and support services.

About us

We are a non-profit organization based in Edmonton, Alberta. We offer programs and support services to help unemployed and underemployed women explore and connect to careers that pay above a living wage. Careers that not only support their own security but often that of their children. We primarily work with women who are underemployed or unemployed and focus on removing common barriers to financial independence. These barriers include access to affordable housing, academic readiness, access to affordable childcare and more. Over the last 20 years, we’ve grown to become a trusted name in our focus industries for introductory training and inspiring more women to explore career opportunities in these areas.

  • Starting April 1, drivers in Alberta are required to complete Class 1 driver’s license training through the new Class 1 Learning Pathway, which uses an apprenticeship-style approach to training. The provincial government has also committed $54.1 million over three years to support training for Class 1 drivers. Women Building Futures was one of the organizations that collaborated on the pathway design. As CEO Carol Moen, P. Eng. said at the March 31 news conference announcing the new pathway, “the commercial driver shortage is an ongoing challenge. Alberta needs to attract, train, and retain more professional drivers to keep our economy moving.  One of the ways we can do so is by successfully bringing often-overlooked groups – like women – into the industry…  “The new Class 1 Learning Pathway will allow a larger pool of Albertans access to the transportation industry through specific employable skills and safety training, as well as the supports for employers to continue mentoring and developing these newly licenced commercial drivers… WBF looks forward to continuing to work with (the) government and all of our partners to get more women behind the wheel across Alberta. “ Read more about new pathway here: https://lnkd.in/gmyTUV_D - #WomenBuildingFutures #WBF #womenintrucking #mlarickwilson Government of Alberta Suncor SATO Canada Inc Devin Dreeshen

  • Thank you to everyone who has expressed interest in our search for a new CEO to take up the leadership torch at Women Building Futures. Applications close on April 14 and we encourage those who think they have what it takes to lead WBF into its next chapter to apply. As we have said before, this is no small task. Whoever replaces outgoing CEO Carol Moen will need to be a brilliant strategist, with exceptional leadership skills and the ability to successfully navigate relationships in the not-for-profit, government and private sectors.  They will be the public face of a respected organization that has spent the last quarter century empowering women and gender-diverse individuals to pursue rewarding careers in the skilled trades and transportation sectors.    This visionary will build on the incredible work Carol has led, helping WBF grow, strengthen partnerships, and create even more opportunities for the people we serve.  We will continue sharing key updates as we move through this process. Thank you for being part of our journey—exciting things are ahead! Please visit the links below for more information and to apply: 🔗https://lnkd.in/dTPB3gfa       🔗https://lnkd.in/gVQ9ky9e
