The Toronto Aboriginal Support Services Council (@tasscofficial) facility underwent a transformative renovation, completed in 2024, to better serve Toronto’s urban Indigenous community. Rooted in friendship, collaboration, and unity, the redesigned space enhances accessibility, cultural connection, and community gathering. With playful wood ceiling elements, curving walls, and vibrant finishes, the renovation brings warmth and energy to the space. A stunning wooden star blanket display, crafted from repurposed dimensional lumber, now serves as a visual centerpiece, honoring Tkaronto’s Indigenous history. Miigwetch to everyone who contributed to this revitalization! #IndigenousDesign #Tkaronto #TASSC #CommunityMatters #DesignWithPurpose #RenovationComplete #Completed2024

We are incredibly grateful and honored to have our SOAHAC - Nshwaasnangong Childcare and Family Centre project recognized with the London & District Construction Association Project Excellence Award! This project is so much more than a building—it’s a place where Indigenous languages and cultures are revitalized, starting with our youngest learners. The use of mass timber, including cross-laminated timber (CLT) and glulam, was essential to realizing our vision of a nurturing, natural space that enhances well-being. Thank you to our amazing partners. We’re excited to continue working together to build spaces that make a meaningful impact on the community! #MassTimber #CLT #Glulam #BiophilicDesign #IndigenousRevitalization #ExcellenceInConstruction #SOAHAC #ThankYou
Our SOAHAC - Nshwaasnangong Childcare and Family Centre #masstimber project picked up yet another award this month! This bright, beautiful, open structure uses cross-laminated timber (#CLT) for the ceilings and walls and #Glulam for columns and beams. Last week, the project picked up a London & District Construction Association Project Excellence Award for the highest standards and best practices in pursuit of excellence in the construction industry. The purpose of the Centre is to help the local community revitalize Indigenous languages and cultures in the early years and beyond. The choice of using mass timber was critically important to the project's vision. Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre (SOAHAC) prioritized natural materials, valuing wood’s biophilic qualities - enhancing the health and well-being of occupants. Congratulations to SOAHAC and the rest of the project team! General Contractor: Sierra Construction Group Architect: Two Row Architect Mass Timber Installer: The Contract Framing Group Inc.

Get ready for a new pedestrian bridge spanning Toronto’s Keating Channel. We’re thrilled to be part of the design team that has been selected by Waterfront Toronto as part of an international design competition to deliver the Keating Channel Pedestrian Bridge, which will provide a vital connection for residents and visitors to a growing network of waterfront destinations and an expanded regional park system along the Don River. We will be providing engineering services for the bridge as part of a team led by WilkinsonEyre and Zeidler Architecture and comprising of Two Row Architect and PLANT Architect Inc.. “Engineering a structure designed to harmoniously integrate into its environment is an honour,” said Yen Wu, Arup’s Project Manager. “With arch and deck compression, the Equinox Bridge’s form-finding geometry creates a beautiful, organic shape that pays tribute to Toronto’s past, present, and future. “We at Arup are excited about our collaboration with Waterfront Toronto, as well as our partners WilkinsonEyre and Zeidler Architecture,” added Project Director Omid Nakhaei. “Together, we are committed to playing our part in delivering this iconic project for Toronto.” Learn more about the bridge here: https://bit.ly/4bujt4j #Infrastructure #BridgeDesign
