  • We are thrilled to introduce you to the new President + CEO of the Nonprofit Chamber. Angie Gélinas brings a unique blend of cross-sector leadership experience, with a diverse career that has spanned the nonprofit, government, arts, and business sectors. Angie has served as a deputy minister, cultural leader, business strategist, and facilitator—roles that have shaped her as a bold advocate for mission-driven work and systems-level change. Her leadership is grounded in the belief that Alberta’s nonprofit sector, which contributes $5.5 billion to Alberta’s economy every year and employs nearly 300,000 Albertans, is not a side player. Our sector is a bold, strategic force for good and nonprofits are vital economic actors and policy partners. “I am so excited to join the Nonprofit Chamber,” says Angie. “Nonprofits across Alberta drive economic value, civic belonging, and public trust, and this work is more important now than ever.” “This sector employs hundreds of thousands of Albertans and addresses complex issues that impact every community. I’m honoured to step into this role. My focus will be on positioning the nonprofit sector as indispensable to Alberta’s future—and ensuring it’s treated accordingly in policy, investment, and public discourse." A strategist at heart and a connector by nature, Angie is known for her ability to turn big ideas into actionable strategies, build trust across diverse teams, and create the conditions where purpose-driven organizations can act boldly and multiply their impact—while having some fun along the way. “I am thrilled to welcome our new President + CEO Angie Gélinas to usher in a new era for the Nonprofit Chamber and the thousands of members across Alberta,” says Nonprofit Chamber Board Chair Bjorn Johansson. “Angie emerged as the clear choice to lead the organization into a future of innovation and collaboration. Her track record of successful leadership, combined with her deep nonprofit industry knowledge and commitment to excellence, make her the ideal candidate to drive the Nonprofit Chamber forward. She truly embodies the values of the Nonprofit Chamber, and we are confident that under her stewardship, the organization will thrive and continue to play a vital role in supporting nonprofits across our great province.” Angie succeeds Karen Ball, whose strong leadership and incredible passion over the last five years furthered the Nonprofit Chamber as a credible, collaborative voice for the sector. We can’t thank Karen enough for all her work in building a better world, and we wish her the best on her next adventure in Montreal. We’re delighted to have Angie on board. She will be starting as President + CEO in early May and is looking forward to meeting many of you at upcoming Nonprofit Chamber events.

  • As tariff drama continues to unfold, leading to uncertainty and concern in the nonprofit sector and industries across Canada, if there’s one thing we can continue to do throughout this period, it is coming together as a community. Canadians have a long history of coming together in times of crisis. During World War I and II, families across the country created Victory Gardens. These vegetable gardens were designed to alleviate food shortages and foster a sense of pride and solidarity. Victory Gardens weren’t just about growing food, they were about growing resilience and showing that, no matter the challenge, we win when we lift each other up. So, whether it’s shopping Canadian, supporting local businesses, volunteering at a local nonprofit, or planting vegetables, now is the time to unite as a community. Let's continue the tradition of supporting one another, no matter the obstacles ahead.

  • Supporting local means supporting your local nonprofits too. Shop local. Buy Canadian. And donate or volunteer your time to nonprofits in your community. Nonprofit organizations are the backbone of our neighbourhoods, providing essential services, advocating for society’s most vulnerable, and fostering connections that uplift everyone. To put it simply, nonprofits make our communities better. And in times of economic uncertainty, it’s more important now than ever that we come together to support nonprofits., Volunteering is a great place to start. Even just one hour a month can make all the difference. Visit https://lnkd.in/dH__GnZ to discover volunteer opportunities near you. Together, we can build a more resilient, connected community.
