During National Organ & Tissue Donation Awareness Month, we celebrate the vital role of family doctors in guiding patients through complex health journeys like organ transplants. They provide personalized support and coordinate care with other healthcare professionals to ensure a smooth and successful recovery.

The Ontario College of Family Physicians welcomes the continued momentum from the Ontario government and the Primary Care Action Team. We are committed to working closely with Minister Sylvia Jones and Dr. Jane Philpott to ensure family physicians have the team-based support they need — and that every patient in Ontario can access the care they deserve.
Today, Ontario launched the first call for proposals to add up to 80 new and expanded primary care teams that will connect 300,000 more people to primary care this year - bringing us one step closer to connecting everyone to primary care by 2029. To highlight the essential role of family physicians, we asked Ontarians to tell us how their family doctor has gone above and beyond for them. In response, we received over 750 heartwarming submissions from across the province. At an event earlier this week, our President, Jobin V., President-Elect, Eric Wong, MD MClSc (FM) CCFP FCFP CFD COI CPP and CEO Deepy Sur, MSW, PhD, RSW joined the Central West Ontario Health Team and William Osler Health System Department of Family and Community Medicine to present certificates of recognition to 23 local family physicians nominated by their patients for outstanding care. Thank you to the CWOHT and William Osler DFCM for inviting the OCFP to recognize family physicians, and Hon. Charmaine Williams and MPP Deepak Anand for joining us to recognize family physicians. We asked Ontarians a simple question: 'tell us how your family doctor has gone above for you.' We heard from more than 750 patients the province, including Andree Decoste of Brampton who shared how her family physician, Dr. Christopher Veenema has supported and coordinated care for her and her son following a catastrophic head on collision. Read more about Dr. Veenema's compassionate care and how family physicians are essential to the health of Ontarians. https://lnkd.in/gNfYdvBW
