We’re elated to share that founding partners Marianne McKenna and Shirley Blumberg have each received Gold Medals from The Royal Architectural Institute Of Canada | L'Institut royal d'architecture du Canada for their individual and collective contributions to the field of architecture and design in Canada and the United States. For nearly 40 years, Marianne and Shirley’s leadership and design excellence has shaped the built environment, advanced responsible architecture, and inspired future generations of architects — at KPMB and beyond. They have helped shape KPMB’s vision and have influenced the broader architectural landscape, founding partner Bruce Kuwabara says. And their efforts, as described by architects Brigitte Shim and Howard Sutcliffe, have resulted in “thoughtful, meaningful, and regenerative architectural solutions that contribute to creating a future world we want to live in.” As Omar Gandhi puts it, they are “luminaries in the field of architecture.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/giRbKqg2

On April 7, senior associate Andrea Macaroun will join Emelie Chhangur, director and curator at the Agnes Etherington Art Centre, and Georgina Riel, Indigenous Affairs Consultant, for a presentation at the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP) North Atlantic 2025 Regional Conference. In a session moderated by KPMB's Dawn Stremler, Andrea, Emelie, and Georgina will share how decolonization, sustainability, community engagement, and Indigeneity guided the design decisions for Agnes Reimagined.  They will share learnings on organizing a community-based design process, designing healthy museum environments, and creating Indigenous self-determination spaces. The Duan Family Center for Computing & Data Sciences at Boston University has won a 2025 Green GOOD DESIGN Award! Presented by The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies and The Chicago Athenaeum Museum for Architecture and Design, the Green GOOD DESIGN Award celebrates the world’s most important examples of sustainable design. A landmark for the university and the city, the Center is one of Boston’s largest sustainable buildings and the university’s first LEED Platinum building.
