For seniors with life-limiting illness and their families, we need gentle but realistic conversations about their medical conditions, changes in their abilities and function, their quality of life, and goals of care. With a gentle approach to medical truth-telling, we can avoid potentially burdensome medical interventions, prevent unnecessary suffering, and empower families to help provide the best quality of life possible for their loved one. Dr Trevor Janz will model these conversations with families for us; about MOST status, CPR and ICU, feeding tubes in stroke and late dementia, falls and hip fracture, pneumonia, dehydration and bladder infections, and avoiding hospitalization. 🗓️ April 17, 2025 🕛 12pm Register: https://lnkd.in/eKhzGSZK #seriousillnessconversations #ECHOpalliativeBC #dementiacare

We're proud to have supported the development of the new British Columbia Edition of the Canadian Atlas of Palliative Care, led by Pallium Canada, with support from McMaster University. As the first tool of its kind in the province, the Atlas offers an interactive, data-driven snapshot of palliative care capturing where and how care is being delivered across BC and within its regional health authorities. It shines a light on the progress we have made and the important work ahead to ensure all British Columbians with serious illness have equitable access to quality, compassionate care. Together, we now have a valuable foundation to turn data into action, and continue building a stronger, more connected palliative care system for everyone in British Columbia. Our symptom management guide can be used by Health Care Assistants, Aides, Home Support Workers and Community Health Workers in all care settings, working within the scope of their role to support people living with advanced life limiting illness experiencing symptoms. This tool can be folded to carry in their pocket or used as a poster and gives ideas for what HCAs can do to help people feel better. Always follow the person's care plan and tell a nurse or other caregiver what you have seen, heard, and done to try and help. Download it here: https://lnkd.in/edR5q4GX #HCAs #PalliativeCare
