  • 1 in 4 Canadians are balancing paid work with unpaid caregiving, yet most workplaces aren't set up to support them. Research from McMaster University’s Dr. Allison Williams shows that caregiver-friendly workplace programs (CFWPs) are essential for creating safer, healthier, and more inclusive work environments. Implementing policies that support carer-employees is not just an ethical responsibility but a strategic advantage for organizations. • Pallium Canada’s journey began with one patient, one conversation, and one powerful lesson. In the mid-1990s, a man named George, living with advanced cancer, walked into Dr. José Pereira’s office in rural Manitoba seeking relief from severe pain. He knew he was dying, but what he feared most was suffering. Unfortunately, like many health care professionals at the time, Dr. Pereira had never received palliative care training. Not knowing how to help, he told George there was nothing more he could do. As George left, he said, “I hope one day doctors like you can better look after people like me.” Those words changed everything. Inspired by his words, Dr. Pereira and a group of dedicated health care professionals came together in 2000 to create Pallium Canada, driven by a mission to equip health care professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to provide quality palliative care. 25 years later, our mission continues, and George’s words still guide and inspire us. 📽️ Watch Dr. Periera share the full story: https://buff.ly/SVmBbfD #Pallium25

  • Caregivers are essential members of the care team yet, they often go unseen and unsupported. Today on #NationalCaregiverDay, we’re encouraging health care providers to build the skills and understanding needed to better support caregivers in their practice. The Social Connection Palliative Care module is a free resource that highlights the critical role of social connections in patient health outcomes. To help put this into practice, it introduces the Atlas CareMap, a simple, visual tool health care providers can use to assess a patient’s support network, identify where caregivers may need help, and connect them to meaningful support. Access the module: https://buff.ly/boZMTpI

  • Did you know that working caregivers provide on average 30 hours of work a week in addition to their working hours? This #NationalCaregiverDay, we’re calling on workplaces to recognize the unique challenges working caregivers face and take action to support them. The Compassionate Workplace Campaign workshop builds empathy and equips organizations with the skills to take action and support their caregiving colleagues. • What a memorable evening in Vancouver! On Tuesday, we had the pleasure of celebrating the launch of the British Columbia Edition of the Canadian Atlas of Palliative Care alongside our partners, donors and community leaders. During the reception, we heard from our CEO, Jeffrey Moat and Dr. Eman Hassan from the BC Centre for Palliative Care about the Atlas’s potential to drive meaningful change and improve palliative care in BC for years to come. A heartfelt thank you to Commander John Jennings for representing our lead funder, the Sovereign Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Knights Hospitaller – Vancouver Commandery at the event and for eloquently highlighting why the development of the Atlas marks a seminal moment in the advancement of palliative care in the province. Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to our generous donors and partners for bringing this milestone to life! Learn more about the Atlas: buff.ly/3REw71W

We are thrilled to announce the launch of the British Columbia Edition of the Canadian Atlas of Palliative Care! This is the FIRST-ever tool of its kind in the province, providing an interactive, data-driven overview of palliative care at a provincial and regional level, across various domains, such as policy, services, and education! 🗺️ Developed by Pallium Canada in partnership with McMaster University and the BC Centre for Palliative Care, this Atlas is a pivotal step toward ensuring that every British Columbian can access compassionate, high-quality care at the end of life, no matter where they live. The Atlas finds that while BC’s palliative care system is strong, significant disparities remain, particularly in rural and remote areas. It also highlights key areas where action is needed to ensure equitable access for all. This tool is more than just a report – it’s a catalyst for change! We’re excited to see how this resource will empower policymakers, health care leaders, and communities to make informed decisions that can improve care across the province. A huge thank you to the organizations and individuals who made this possible. 👉 Explore the full BC Atlas of Palliative Care here: https://buff.ly/FXldUn0 #PalliativeCare #HealthEquity #BCAtlas #CompassionateCare #BCHealth
