Testaankoop / Testachats, founded in 1957, is part of an association of consumer organizations throughout Europe and Latin-America. Our mission is to defend and protect consumers’ rights, to seek solutions for their consumer related problems, and to help them to assert their rights (freedom of choice, access to information, access to justice, right to education, health, safety and a healthy environment). By conducting comparative studies and tests and by highlighting the products and services with the best price-quality ratio, we actively contribute to the further development and improvement of consumer products and services. Information about our studies is available via our website, magazines, practical guides, and our individual help service with a team of dedicated agents who deal with individual consumer questions. In addition, we represent consumers in several national and international commissions and government institutions. We negotiate legal and economic advantages for consumers and we defend their rights by means of judicial actions. Our work for the consumer is primarily led by our 3 key values: Expertise, Independence, and Proximity. We have been waiting for Nutrient Profiles for 16 years! 😑 Without them, we still see unhealthy products using health and nutrition claims on the front of their packaging.
😢 This #BlueMonday we're marking a sad anniversary for consumers. Nutrient Profiles to prevent health + nutrition claims on fatty, salty or sugary products should have been set... 𝟭𝟲 𝘆𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘀 ago. Without them we still see unhealthy products using claims as 'healthy halos'. ‘Rich in Vitamin D’? That may well be but when a cereal is nearly 40% sugar, such a claim isn't deserved. That was the original intention of EU legislation on food claims. But with a history of lobbying along with long delays, this law is still unfulfilled. Consumers are still misled. It’s hard enough for today’s busy consumers to make quick healthy choices in the supermarket. Health and nutrition claims which appear on the front of an unhealthy product's packaging make a difficult job even tougher for shoppers trying to go for healthier options. It's clear that the legislation to #StopDodgyClaims is needed more than ever.
