Euro-African Dialogue on Migration and Development
About us
The Euro-African Dialogue on Migration and Development (Rabat Process) is a regional migration dialogue. Since 2006, the Dialogue has offered a framework for consultation, bringing together countries of origin, transit and destination of the migration routes linking Central, West and Northern Africa with Europe. 57 state partners and additional key stakeholders, including the European Union (EU) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), are involved. The result is an open Dialogue between national authorities about technical and political questions related to migration and development. The Rabat Process was founded in 2006 as a dialogue platform for national authorities of the countries of origin, transit and destination along the West and Central African migration routes. The initiative was based on the acknowledgement that finding a response to migration flows required a coordinated response from all concerned countries. At the time, major migration routes crossed the Strait of Gibraltar or led to the Canary Islands. The conviction that it was not exclusively the responsibility of Spain and Morocco to manage these migration routes gave the impetus to France, Morocco, Senegal and Spain to create the Rabat Process. The dialogue was officially established at the first Euro-African Ministerial Conference on Migration and Development organised in Rabat in 2006.

✨Nigeria's vision✨ for their Chairmanship of the Rabat Process: Nigeria aims to foster stronger #partnerships, enhance #policycoherence, and deliver meaningful #outcomes across the Rabat Process region. As chair, Nigeria is well-positioned to drive forward meaningful dialogue and actions, working alongside both African and European partners to address the complexities of migration along critical routes. Nigeria’s Chairmanship will particularly promote 🔸regional cooperation, 🔸inclusive migration, 🔸a balanced and humane approach. In collaboration with the partner countries of the Rabat Process, Nigeria is working on a comprehensive agenda, with priority focus on the benefits of migration, particularly emphasising thematic areas such as 🔸youth innovation, 🔸diaspora engagement, 🔸regular pathways 🔸promoting respect for the dignity and human rights of migrants and those in need of protection, with a focus on missing migrants, and 🔸improving data management. Additional thematic areas that might be explored during the chairmanship include climate-induced mobility, combating trafficking in human beings, and sustainable reintegration. By the end of Nigeria's chairmanship of the Rabat Process, the following outcomes are expected: 🔸Strengthened regional and bilateral cooperation, 🔸Increased recognition of the role of youth and innovation in migration, 🔸Enhanced national capacities for effective migration management. 🤝 Nigeria is working closely with all the Rabat Process partner countries to ensure their tenure as chair is marked by meaningful progress, collaboration, and shared success. 👉 Find out more about the Chairmanship here: https://lnkd.in/dYa7ajSM #youth #migration #mobility #regularmigration #migrationmanagement #thb #trafficking #migrationdata #reintegration #development #missingmigrants #protection #humanrights Dr. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, and Poverty Alleviation National Commission for Refugees Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) Hon.
