Human rights and democracy for all in the Euro-Mediterranean region

Om os

A network representing 65 human rights organisations active in 30 countries. It was founded in 1997, following the 1995 Barcelona Declaration, by civil society organisations dedicated to promoting human rights and democracy within the framework of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership. EuroMed Rights’ mission is to develop and strengthen partnerships, on an equal footing, between civil society organisations at regional and national levels. By creating network opportunities and encouraging such civil society cooperation, EuroMed Rights aims to help them develop joint strategies, convey their shared views and visions to decision-makers and to the broader public, and ultimately increase their influence at home and abroad.

  • End femicide now: demand justice and accountability 🚨 Three decades after the Beijing Declaration, femicide remains a devastating reality. Each year, 2,300 women are killed in Europe, and in the Maghreb, the issue persists in silence. From honor killings in Jordan to unreported cases in Morocco, impunity is killing women. This violence is not only a personal tragedy, but a fundamental human rights violation. Euromed denounces this impunity and, on the occasion of International Women's Day, has published a joint position paper calling for urgent action against femicide. 🔗 : https://shorturl.at/uDAsW It’s time to break the silence, demand accountability, and ensure protection for every woman. Governments must take bold action: criminalize femicide, enforce laws, and uphold international standards like the Istanbul Convention to finally end this injustice.✊

  • 📅 February 2-3 📍Istanbul, Turkey The second edition of the Majalat II South Seminar, titled Justice & Politics in the Euro-Mediterranean Region: The Repercussions of the International (Dis)order, brought together activists, journalists, and scholars from the MENA region for two days of powerful discussions on governance, freedoms, and climate justice, reinforcing civil society’s engagement with the EU. Participants tackled pressing issues such as freedom of expression, the fight against impunity, and the urgent need for an inclusive and fair climate transition. Key debates addressed the outcomes of COP29, the role of ecofeminism, energy agreements, and the devastating link between wars and the climate crisis, with a focus on ecocide in Palestine. The seminar also featured thematic working groups, where participants collaborated to refine concrete strategies for governance, justice, and climate advocacy.
