Megawatt Charging Systems (MCS) are the key to ultra-fast charging for heavy-duty vehicles (HDVs), yet their deployment faces significant barriers. The complexity of deploying MCS at scale is staggering, with challenges spanning technology, grid infrastructure, policy, and business models. Project Week Technology & Sustainability – Day 1. Kick-off with a sustainable mindset The 2025 edition of the VUB Faculty of Engineering’s Project Week on Technology & Sustainability is off to a strong start! We began in the historic manège at the #USquare campus, where nearly 300 first-year engineering students gathered for an inspiring keynote by Lisa Wastiels (Buildwise). Her central message? A sustainable mindset isn’t a nice-to-have, it’s a core skill for tomorrow’s engineers. While previous generations are having to adapt, today’s students are starting their journey with the right questions already in mind: 🔍 Where do materials come from? 🌍 What is their impact on people and planet? ♻️ How can circularity guide our design choices? Next up, Maarten Messagie (VUB-MOBI) introduced the principles of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA)—a powerful method to understand and avoid problem shifting across time, space, and environmental impacts. With clear examples, he brought LCA to life and laid the foundation for the hands-on work to follow. In the afternoon, the real work began. In multidisciplinary teams, students dove into real-world challenges related to mobility, digital technology, sustainable construction, energy systems, and clothing. We’re just getting started—but the energy and curiosity in the room were already remarkable. #VUB #PTD2025 #Sustainability #EngineeringEducation #Circularity #LCA #FutureEngineers #ProjectWeek #weKONEKTbrussels
