Last week, the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies together with the The National Board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen) gathered in Stockholm under the #ECHoS #NCMHs framework for a policy dialogue on personalized medicine (PM) implementation in cancer care. 🎯 Decision-makers from international and national institutions came together with researchers, practitioners, clinicians and representatives from Patient Organisations to share cross-cutting knowledge. The discussion focused on two policy objectives: identify key governance barriers to PM implementation and explore approaches that enhance multidisciplinary adoption & implementation of PM-driven applications in cancer care. Participants exchanged insights on topics such as: 📌 Clarity: clearer roles are needed to enable multidisciplinary PM, especially across different levels of governance. 📌 Capacity and Competence Building: encouraging the participation of citizens, patients and all levels of healthcare providers, with a particular focus on Primary Health Care. 📌 Continuous Exchange of Practices: exchanging learnings through interregional and international cooperation is a strong enabler of further development in PM. 📌 Private-Public Partnerships: Further development of private-public partnerships along with progressing public-public dialogue to ensure responsible, equitable adoption of PM. 📌 Ethical Values and Added Value: Explore together how to create added value during the implementation of PM-based approaches in oncology and beyond. 📮 This dialogue was informed by an upcoming policy brief prepared by OBS in collaboration with the Swedish Presidency titled “Personalized Medicine for Healthier Populations: Key Considerations for Policy-Makers”. At the Baltic Health Policy Dialogue in Tallinn, policy-makers and partners came together to explore how to advance primary care and social care integration. In March, the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies and ECHoS | Establishing of Cancer Mission Hubs: Networks and Synergies gathered with the team of the Hungarian National Institute of Oncology in Budapest for a policy dialogue on integrating #cancerresearch and care. ✍️ This cross-cutting dialogue hosted an international group of experts along with national policy-makers and focused on the real-world implications of integrating cancer research and care. 📣 #ECHoS actively discussed Synergies during the General Assembly of EUonQol project together with #CCI4EU, EUnetCCC - European Network of Comprehensive Cancer Centres, JANE-2- EU Joint Action on Networks of Expertise on Cancer, also in the panel representatives of Organisation of European Cancer Institutes (OECI) and of the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies and the moderation by the European Cancer Organisation.   The discussion focused on the implementation of the #QualityOfLife Tool, developed by EUonQoL, in the Members States, with the help of National #CancerMissionHubs, Comprehensive Cancer Centres and Infrastructures and Networks of Expertise.   United in purpose, no one is left behind! The European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies hosted a network meeting in Brussels with Sciensano dedicated to the OBS-PACE Project: ‘OBS-Learning from Progress in Addressing Cancer in Europe’. 🤝 National and international cancer experts from Ministries of Health, Public Health Institutes, Cancer Societies, Patient Organisations and academia all across the EU gathered to discuss published case studies and next steps of the #OBS-PACE project. After opening remarks by the Observatory’s Director Ewout van Ginneken along with Vittoria Carraro (DG SANTE) and Tit Albreht (OriON Joint Action), participants shared case studies of cancer activities developed in their countries and brainstormed on cross-country themes in cancer research, care, and policies.
