The #MENTALITY project successfully transferred four mental health practices between European countries. As the project wrapped up, we asked: how can policies on the local, national and European levels support the successful implementation of good practices for mental health? MENTALITY transferred practices that address the mental wellbeing of healthcare workers and migrants, provide tools for teachers to teach about mental wellbeing, and facilitate access to mental health and supportive services. The MENTALITY Policy Report summarises the methodology used, results, and insights drawn from these interventions while providing actionable policy insights on the local, national, and European levels. The analysis resulted in five recommendations: - Create an infrastructure for implementation - Identify the resources and expertise that already exist - Adapt best practices to your particular situation and existing infrastructure - Give a voice to those you aim to support - Measure and repeat - don't implement and move on. EuroHealthNet was pleased to join the EU Alliance for Investing in Children in its second annual meeting with the European Commission. We thank DG EMPL and its Child Guarantee Unit for its continued collaboration with the alliance and its dedication to addressing child poverty and exclusion. Child poverty remains a deep and persistent crisis, with one in every four children at risk. Addressing it is not just a moral responsibility, but also makes economic sense: the economic burden of childhood disadvantages— caused by lower wages, poorer health, and lower life expectancy—adds up to 3.4% of GDP. In a new policy paper, the Alliance outlines key recommendations for the EU to address child poverty by strengthening the European Child Guarantee. Fighting child poverty must also be a strong priority in the future EU Anti-Poverty Strategy and EU budget post-2027. Only by taking a bold, integrated and adequately funded approach can Europe eradicate child poverty and create a fairer Europe for all. 📣 Webinar: Shifting the focus of health and economic policies: Investing for sustainable health and well-being In November, the European public health community will gather in Helsinki, Finland, for the 18th European Public Health Conference. In the six months before the conference, the local organisers, Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), and Society for Social Medicine in Finland (Sosiaalilääketieteen yhdistys ry), are organising a webinar series, in which the thematic areas of the #EPH2025 are introduced. The main theme of the 18th European Public Health Conference is "Investing for sustainable health and well-being," emphasizing that improving health and well-being is an investment benefiting society and contributing to a sustainable economy. The first webinar of the series will discuss the application of the well-being economy, the role of EU policies, the economic benefits of investing in health and health systems, and future expectations for European public health policy. We will hear presentations from Otto Kyyrönen (Finnish Federation for Social Affairs and Health), Caroline Costongs (EuroHealthNet) and Luigi Siciliani (University of York). The discussion is moderated by Ilmo Keskimäki (Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare). A strong civil society is crucial for a vibrant and well-functioning democracy. Civil society organisations (CSOs) defend and protect the interests of citizens and Europe's fundamental rights and values and hold policymakers accountable. CSOs provide important contributions to improving people's health by working on a wide range of health-related issues. CSOs give voice to population groups and issues of public interest, such as health promotion, disease prevention, and health equity, that can be easily overshadowed. EuroHealthNet therefore supports the EU4Health Civil Society Alliance's call to DG SANTE to support the core operations of Health CSOs through the EU4Health programme in 2025 and beyond. ➡️ https://lnkd.in/e3drrfrp #EU4Health #Brussels #HealthEquity #HealthPromotion #PublicHealth

In 2022, the European Union took a crucial step to improve care affordability, accessibility, and quality. Now, to further strengthen the Care Strategy, we join a call from civil society and trade unions for an approach that: ✅ Recognises long-term care as a pillar of social protection. ✅ Supports informal carers, especially women. ✅ Improves working conditions for care professionals. ✅ Prioritises not-for-profit care providers. We need a European Long-Term Care Platform to ensure accountability. With 30M+ people relying on care, we call upon the EU to act now and prioritise long-term care. "[Health professionals] messages must be straightforward and relatable. Young people are constantly exposed to these [tobacco and energy drink] products, and our goal is to give them the tools they need to make informed decisions about their health," says Zsófia Kimmel, a health promotion officer at Nemzeti Népegészségügyi és Gyógyszerészeti Központ. With youth vaping and nicotine pouch use on the rise, ministers from 12 European countries have this week called for 'future-proof' EU legislation to counter aggressive marketing. The need to act has never been greater. Hungary is already leading the way with youth-focused campaigns that use influencers and digital strategies to combat disinformation and boost health literacy. In our latest article, Ruth Thomas speaks with Zsófia Kimmel about how public health efforts are pushing back against industry's powerful marketing tactics to enable young people to access accurate, reliable, and easy-to-digest health information. 🔗https://lnkd.in/eeCbgdKK #PublicHealth #HealthPolicy #SocialMarketing #Marketing #Communication #Industry #Europe #EU #Communication #HealthInequalities #YouthHealth European Youth Forum European Commission Smoke Free Partnership European Commission
